Brandon Marshall, shown making a 77-yard touchdown reception against Miami that was nullified by a penalty, took exception to postgame comments made by Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter.

— Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall on Tuesday lashed out at Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, who, after Sunday's game, labeled him as “soft” and prone to “mope and cry” when he’s taken out of a game by the opposing defense.

Speaking at his locker during Denver’s preparations for the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, Marshall seemed both amused and bemused that Porter called him out publicly after the Broncos’ 26-17 loss.

Porter maintained that Marshall, who was limited to season lows in catches (2) and yards (27), was rode “into the dirt’ by his trash-talking.

“You’ve got to understand the situation. They’re winning. We’re going back and forth, and he won because they won the game,” Marshall said. “It had nothing to do with us going back and forth. He ran with it. And he ran with it pretty good. But getting in my head? Never.

“He can’t get in my head because I’m always trying to make plays and make things happen. I’m never shutting down. I don’t care if we’re down 40 points or up by 40 points, I’m never shutting it down. I’m going to try and do my best and make plays.”

Marshall turned the soft label right back on Porter, who leads the NFL with 11 1/2 sacks this season and is a prime candidate for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

“Joey Porter’s one of those guys, when you’ve got guys who talk a lot of trash and want to talk about people or put people down, they have their own insecurities. His insecurities, I don’t know,” Marshall said.

“But he’s definitely one of those guys who all those muscles are popcorn muscles. He’s soft. We hear stories floating around the league all the time about him, as far as him being in nightclubs, dancing with his shirt off like a girl, or in the playground getting beat up back in California,” Marshall added. “He’s one of those guys that no matter how big he is, he can still get knocked on his butt. He’s soft. And you can tell the way he’s talking. His nickname’s ‘Peezy’. I don’t know what ‘Peezy’ is, Joey.”

Marshall punctuated his diatribe with a mischievious grin.

    "tuchdown"?

    "took exception too"?

I'm no newspaper editor, but you may want to look into at that. I thought I was reading the DP for a minute there.

    Otherwise, a decent article.

Porter is a Ray Lewis wannabe who has reached half of his goal. Because he is almost as big of a punk as Lewis. Great players do their talking on the field and not off of it! Let's hope Brandon makes the choice to be great.

That Broncos' offense is offensive! Opponents' coaches have figured out the Broncos' offense, and the coaches here can't adjust. That unit scored more than 30 points a game in the first three weeks and led the league in total offense, and now it can't even score 20 at home against the likes of the Miami Dolphins. Coach Shanahan has been a fine coach for the Broncos for a long time, but it has been some time since the Mastermind has looked anything like a mastermind. And after a bye week in which his team was humiliated on national TV vs. the less-potent-than-last-year New England Patriots, the Broncos look confused and lethargic at home vs. the Dolphins. As sad as it is to say, it looks like it's time for the Broncos to part ways with Shanahan and switch things up. Perhaps they need to look for a more defense-minded coach like Monte Kiffin in Tampa Bay, who would bring a lot of experience to the Broncos as well as his reputation as a defensive genius. Then perhaps he can bring his son, Lane, to be the offensive coordinator. Lane has a sharp young mind, and with his dad at the helm, Lane wouldn't have the interference from the likes of an Al Davis, who seems stuck in the '70s. That's just an idea, but the club certainly looks like it needs a shake-up, and simply bringing in some new coordinators doesn't seem to be working. Shanny can certainly coach, but as a GM, he's been more miss than hit. Players like Cutler (yes, he's playing bad now, but I still believe he has a bright future), along with Marshall, Dumervil, Clady, Scheffler, Royal and several others are good players. But there are too many other players on this roster who can't play worth squat, and some assistant coaches who look clueless as well, and Shanny is the one who brought them all in. He's been given a long time to rebuild this team since its Super Bowl heydays, and they seem to be getting worse, not better. Meanwhile, a club like Miami, which won all of one game last year, looks to be on the rebound in a big way. Same with Atlanta, which is winning with a rookie quarterback. Yes, the Broncos have a lot of injuries, but they were tanking even before many of these injuries started setting in — especially on defense. Time for a change.

Any kind of shooting off at the mouth must be backed up by words! The Dullphins had a shutdown team beating up Marshall all day and when he finally got loose! The zebra's came to the phins rescue! That play for a TD stands we aren't talking about trash talking all we say is wow another close Bronco's win!! Hmmmmm?? I wonder if the Z's had any cash on the game or new the Bronco's needed 4 points to make up! Seriously I know we have had our share of mistakes in our favor but to take 6 off the board for a little hand jockeying please!!! )#*$##*)$ Goodall needs to take a look at this tape and ask if the Z's are just trying to make good on another crappy call earlier in the season! I want to know!!

Jrhino..I think the Broncos need to give teams a reason to take double coverage off Marshall. He's double teamed all game. He breaks one for 80 and they call it back because his pinky touched the DB. Don't forget, Marshall also setup a TD by beating double coverage in the end zone and forcing Pass Interference.

Denver needs to establish a running attack and Jay needs to work on his timing with the other WR's...that will open things up for Marshall. Right now, we have no RB who worries anyone. No need to put 8 in the box. If Denver can get back to basics and force defenses to put 8 in the box, then Marshall will tear it up. As of now, drop everyone in coverage...the Running game isn't scaring anyone.

The score speaks for it's self! As for Whiny Marshall, I seen the pouty lips, the disgust, running plays at 50%. In the end, only the wins and losses count. As for the ref's, what went around comes back around, enjoy it, that way you can make all the excuses.

Toe_nail me, I make no excuses for the ref calls, but I do apoligize to the fans for having to read your dribble. Go back to Raidertown. Your negatism stinks all the way out to here, in Nevada. You must be a very unhappy person in your arrogant, obnoxious world? You know nothing about constructive critcism. Talk like that at a Broncos sports bar. I give even money, someone, either verbally or physically or both, would set you in your place.

RockyMts69, yes, 11 years. I just sold my martial arts studio to my business partner and I'm living the relaxed life. I still stay busy teaching to a couple of local celebs and I fish. But my weekends are for my football. As far as Hang_nail, he writes nothing but smack, every time, all the time. I get tired of reading his dribble. Nothing constructive, just likes to talk down on the Broncos and the fans. Read SE7EN's post. That's constructive. Not just trash talking. SE7EN knows his football. He adds something to the conversation.
