Accent Windows, a family-owned business endorsed by former Denver Broncos star Karl Mecklenburg, has sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to court documents.
"People are so afraid to spend money," said president Terry Marcovich. "They are unwilling to pull the trigger on expensive remodels."
The company, founded in 1982 by Tim Marcovich, builds windows in Westminster and has locations in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Montana and Missouri.
Accent in 2007 had its best year, with revenue of $18.5 million, but sales have been clobbered in 2008, down 35 to 40 percent, Marcovich said.
The bankruptcy filing lists debts between $1 million and $10 million but did not provide a precise figure.
