Regional scene: Colorado College still atop hockey polls

The Colorado College men's hockey team remained first in two national polls for the third straight week.

The Tigers (5-0-3) stood No. 1 again in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and U.S. College Hockey Online polls after going 1-0-1 in a weekend series against the University of Denver (4-2-1).

The Pioneers dropped to sixth in both polls.

Air Force (8-0) was ranked No. 14 in both polls.

DU ADVANCES Stephanie Sherlock, Katie Kempter and Ellie Givens won their matches to help the DU women's golf team take a 3-1-1 upset win Monday against second-seeded Virginia in the Hooters Match Play Championship in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Pioneers next face third-

seeded Alabama in the semifinals.

* Emily Childs totaled a three-round 227 to spark the University of Colorado women's golf team to a one-shot victory in the Texas State Challenge in Austin, Texas, edging second-place Texas Tech and Texas State.

RAMS RISE The Colorado State volleyball team (19-2) rose one spot to No. 13 in the NCAA Division I poll compiled by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

WENINO LEADS BUFFALOES CU senior Michelle Wenino and Texas senior Kasey Moore were named the women's soccer co-defensive players of the year by the Big 12 Conference.

Wenino and CU forward Nikki Marshall were named to the all-Big 12 first team.

The fourth-seeded Buffaloes (13-3-3) face Nebraska (10-8-1) in the Big 12 tournament opener at 10:30 a.m. CST Wednesday in San Antonio.

* The top-seeded DU women's soccer team (16-2-2) faces Arkansas-Little Rock (8-10-2) in the Sun Belt Conference tournament opener at 9 a.m. CST Wednesday in Denton, Texas.

* The Colorado School of Mines (11-4-3) will host Mesa State (12-8-1) in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament quarterfinal match at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The winner will face second- seeded Regis (14-5) in a 1:30 p.m. Friday semifinal at Auraria Field.

Top-seeded Metro State (15-1-3) will play the winner between Fort Lewis (11-6-2) and CSU-Pueblo (9-7-2) at 11 a.m. Friday in the other semifinal.

* The Metro State men's soccer team (11-5-3) faces Colorado Mines (9-7-3) in an RMAC tournament semifinal at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Durango.

Top-seeded Fort Lewis (15-1-3) hosts CSU-Pueblo (11-7-2) in a 2:30 p.m. Friday semifinal.

* DU senior forward Kyle Christensen and San Jose State goalie Richard Mann were named the men's soccer co-players of the week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
