THIS JUST IN . . .
The campaign car for Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer is a Ford Freestyle. The candidate, during a debate Thursday, knew the make but not the model of the car, which the campaign leases.
Democrat Mark Udall's campaign leases a hybrid Toyota Prius.
PENNIES MAKE A POINT
83 women supporting John McCain delivered 83 pennies to Barack Obama's northwest Denver headquarters Friday. Their point: Women on Obama's senatorial staff earn just 83 cents for every dollar earned by men on his staff.
MEET WHAT'S HIS FACE
State Rep. Nancy Todd, of Aurora, is so used to referring to her congressman as "Ed" that for a second Friday she was stumped when it was time to introduce him at an early-voting rally. Finally, she said, "our congressman, Ed Perlmutter."
Perlmutter,D-Golden, laughed at the lapse. He pointed out it was better than what happened last week when his colleague U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette introduced him as Congresswoman Ed Perlmutter.
REDFORD INTRODUCTION
"I said to my wife, 'I get to introduce someone who is ruggedly good looking and has movie star qualities.' She said, 'You get to introduce Mark Udall?' "
Gov. Bill Ritter, having a little fun Friday at a rally where he introduced actor Robert Redford. Redford introduced Udall, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate.
MEOW! CATFIGHT OVER BALLOT MEASURES
The latest mailing against Amendments 47 (right to work), 49 (union paycheck deductions) and 54 (government contracting) shows Godzilla stepping on a firehouse.
In response, the Denver Metro Young Republicans says it came up with its own "absurd, dishonest and manipulative" ad. It features a kitten and says voting against the amendments will make kittens very sad.
"Don't make Colorado's kittens cry. Vote Yes."
SPEAKING OF KITTENS . . .
One of the cleverest mailings features a row of adorable puppies and says, "With all the attack ads running against John Bodnar, we are waiting for an ad to say 'John Bodnar doesn't like puppies.' "
Not true!
"John Bodnar," the mailer says, "he likes puppies."
Bodnar, a Republican, is challenging state Rep. Sara Gagliardi, D-Arvada.
