Drier air will dominate along the Front Range for the next few days, but an unlucky few could get some rain and thunderstorms along "skinny bands" of dark clouds.

That's the word from the National Weather Service and the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

An upper level ridge starting to develop over the central Rockies will bring sunny skies this morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies this afternoon.

The high in Denver should be near 80, and the winds calm.

Moisture will be more likely on the eastern plains.

The weekend should be nice in Denver with a high of 82 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday.

The best chance of moisture this weekend will be between 3 p.m. and midnight on Saturday.

Monday's high should be 85 with a slight chance of thunderstorms. On Tuesday the high should be about 83, with not much chance of rain.

The Eagle River at Gypsum and the White River at Meeker are above their official "bankful" levels, says the CWCB. In the next few days, the East River at Almont and the Elk River at Milner could flood.

The Yampa River near Steamboat also is high enough that a flood warning has been issued.

Statewide, the snowpack is at 129 percent of the long-term yearly average. The South Platte River Basin is at 137 percent of average and the Arkansas Basin at 146 percent of average.

The high country is expected to be quite a bit breezier than the plains, with sustained winds in the 20-mph range, and highs in the 50s today and warming to the 60s over the weekend.
