Former Denver Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun pleaded guilty Wednesday in Denver County Court to disturbing the peace for his dust-up with a taxi driver in December.
Judge Andre Rudolph sentenced Sauerbrun to one year of unsupervised probation and ordered him to perform 24 hours of public service.
If Sauerbrun completes the terms of his sentence and remains trouble- free, the case will be dismissed and the guilty plea withdrawn.
Sauerbrun, 35, was cited for simple assault and disturbing the peace after a run-in with Metro Taxi driver Saul Cast on Dec. 7. Cast claimed Sauerbrun was drunk and hit him in the back of the head after he picked up the kicker outside a bar.
The Broncos cut the punter and kickoff specialist days after the incident became public. In exchange for the guilty plea, the assault charge was dropped.
Before the hearing, Sauerbrun said he was innocent.
"I never raised my hand to him and have never done anything violent at all," he told the Rocky Mountain News. Sauerbrun, who lives in Chicago, will perform his community service through NFL Charities.

I can't imagine his justification for acting like an a-hole while drunk. It's like he thinks he's a regular person or something.

He should have beat up his girlfriend or wife. The Broncos would have given him a raise and another contract. Didn't he get the team memo on acceptable behavior? Geez!

Dude, you're punter. Fair or not you won't get the same leash as the skill players.
Maybe if you would have honed your craft instead of bullying cabbies you would still have a job.
Figure it out.
