Democrat Mark Udall on Tuesday officially kicks off his campaign for U.S. Senate in the heart of Republican territory - Colorado Springs.
Over four days, the Eldorado Springs congressman will visit 16 cities as part of what his campaign is calling his "Standing Up for Colorado" tour. The event finishes Friday in Greeley.
Udall will speak to the Retired Enlisted Association at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday in Colorado Springs.
"We want to talk about what Mark's been doing on the Armed Services Committee and what he's been doing to strengthen national security and to take care of veterans," said his campaign spokeswoman, Taylor West.
Udall faces Republican Bob Schaffer, of Fort Collins, a member of the state Board of Education and a former congressman, in the November election.
This Saturday, Schaffer will accept his party's nomination for the U.S. Senate. An official kickoff will happen "shortly thereafter," said his campaign manager, Dick Wadhams.
"Bob has already done a significant amount of travel around Colorado," he said.
