Time to pony up, Denverites

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Story Tools

OK, fellow Denver citizens, it's time to pony up. Our leaders have fallen a little short of the $50 million needed to finance the Democratic National Convention and it's time to kick in.

This is critically important to the political futures of our leaders. They need this national platform to expand their careers and it's our obligation to help them meet this $25 million financial shortfall.

If our leaders can move on to national careers they can expand their great Colorado accomplishments of higher energy prices, lower energy production, higher utility rates, lower public school expectations, and greater unionization of government workers to a national level. They need our help.

I figure if each citizen will contribute just $60 we can meet our goal.

Everyone should do this, even Republicans. Even they will benefit when they're sitting at home watching the national convention coverage.

When the Re-create 68 protesters are tearing up the 16th Street Mall we can all proudly proclaim, "That's my city, America!"

So send in your money and urge your neighbors to do likewise.

I'll be out there too. Like any good liberal, I'm going to be out soliciting my neighbors to pay my share.

quit whining glowrock - the conventions for both parties are all about the politicians bloated ego's. The Denver Democratic convention is going to cost not only Denver taxpayers but state taxpayers for many years to come in various forms already implemented by your hero Tax Ritter.

You're right glowrock, he did a lousy job of imitating liberals. That, would be hard to do as you have to whine, cry and moan about the plight of minorities, women and children. Once again our leaders want to bring national, if not international, attention to our wonderful little city and I say it's a bunch of hogwash. We're doing fine just the way we are. We don't need a bunch of rank outsiders coming here to sniff around and tell us how the "modern world" does things. My contribution to the convention will be a big sign inviting the political hacks to head on back home with a Bronco and a Nugget under each arm!

Open your wallets Denver residents, you will be paying for this convention one way or another. No city in the recent past has managed to make a profit on these orgies that the Republicans and Democrats put on every four years. There is a reason that they do not go back to the same city more than once every hundred years. As short as taxpayers memories are they do recall the havoc that is foisted upon them by the convention. It will be a difficult August in Denver and anyone who can should plan to evacuate the city for that month.

I thought it was originally stated that the DNC was paying for everything? I thought I also read that the local Democrats would raise more than enough money from private donations from local rich Democrats?
What a way to show their supporters that they are serious about their promises. They are serious about changing the way things are done. They are serious about not having a candidate in the " Washington as usual" style. They are serious about bringing hope to the American people.
Nevermind their supporters don't care about all that nonsense and certainly won't hold them accountable.
    Let the games begin!

Does a 31 floor building brought down by R-68 arson count in the Dem's carbon footprint and will Hick name a water-cannon after me? Who's got the clean-up contract and are they a public company?

I personally find it very revolting that there is “not enough money” for many of things the city of Denver needs, yet too much money is being squandered on this party!

I must correct you however. I was in NY and the "Free Speech zones" allowed by the rethuglicans were laughable as they were so far away from the convention site it was pointless to protest.
    Where were they in Houston?

If we could harness all the hot air from both conventions, we cold solve the energy crisis. Maybe our new wind turbine industry could strategically place a few turbines in front of the DNC lecterns...this should pay the tab...shouldn't it. Too bad...I wished that when the DNC convention packs up, they could take Denver with them.

These idiots coming to town along with their counterparts at the RNC are part of the problem...not the solution. If these idiots get elected, we have another set of problems...well, actually we have a lot of solutions in search of problems. ...just gotta love American politics. ...is it over yet?
