Aaron Thompson was in court Wednesday and did not enter a plea as expected in the death of his young daughter, Aarone, to give lawyers more time to prepare their cases.

His appearance at a hearing in Arapahoe District Court came almost one year to the day after a grand jury indicted Thompson on 60 criminal counts involving various children in his care.

Had Thompson entered a plea, he would be tried within six months under the speedy trial deadline.

Thompson's new arraignment date is June 25 and a trial was set for Nov. 3.

The new date gives the court and lawyers a cushion if they can't meet the trial date.

Thompson reported Aarone missing in November 2005, when she would have been 6.

But within days, police said she had been killed up to 18 months earlier.

The grand jury indictment alleges that Aarone was abused to death, but her body has never been found.

Thompson, 40, has long maintained his innocence.

He remains in jail on $500,000 bond.

Eight children, including Aarone, were in the Aurora home with Thompson and his live-in girlfriend, Shely Lowe, who has since died.

Last month, after much legal wrangling, the courts released details behind the charges.

Beatings were a daily occurrence in the Thompson-Lowe household, according to the indictment that relied on the accounts of the children.

Sometimes the children would get hit so hard they could not sit down because of cuts and sores, the indictment said.

It's too bad this man won't do the right thing and tell the police where this little girl is so she can have a proper burial.

No doubt it is being delayed so that he can finish his doctoral thesis on design and construction of long range missile navigation and propulsion systems.

Idiot...why has nobody shanked this clown yet?

Why is this jackass still even around? They need to hurry up and convict his sorry ass, throw him in the pen and let a few of the big homies take care of him. I work with abused and neglected kids on a daily basis, so this kind of mess pisses me off. Do away with him already, ASAP please.

Steel, that's unnecessary. Dcolon, you too. I see shades of gray in human beings, rather than judging them in black and white. Too bad you can't pull your collective heads out and stop the knee-jerk reactions -- much simpler for sound bites, right?

This is one liberal do-gooder that would like to see this guy go down for a very, very long time. Hope he gets his come-uppance in there, too. No kids should have to live or die like little Aarone did, or any of the other kids in that house, for that matter.

He really should say where she is buried. Hopefully that will be part of the plea bargain. If not, I'm all for waterboarding to get it out of him.

To tell the truth, I don't want this guy to get a plea bargain. As a Colorado taxpayer I don't want to foot the bill for his incarceration, either. Look at the way he treated ALL of his children. He needs to be made incapable of fathering any more of them. He should be made to spend time in an environment where he will pay the price for abusing or killing children; perhaps he should be exposed to the same fear and end result that poor Aarone had to endure. It may sound cold and cruel, but there it is.
