Chris Sutter, brother of Bachelorette star Ryan Sutter, turned down offers to be on The Bachelor - twice. Now he has the perfect excuse to rebuke the reality series: He's engaged.
Sutter, 31, will marry Jackie Brunetti, 28, on June 28 at Hudson Gardens, followed by a reception at Tivoli Turnhalle on the Auraria campus.
The former teacher-turned- media-buyer met his betrothed during - ironically - a charity bachelor auction in front of the Denver ChopHouse five years ago after Bachelorette Trista Rehn chose Ryan at the end of the show. Younger brother Chris was sought out by national and local media outlets because he was single, handsome and related to Ryan.
"I get daily (grief) from my boss about (the media attention)," Chris said. "I work in TV now, so people recognize the name, especially the ABC folks I work with." He's a media buyer with Starcom MediaVest Group.
The twosome moved to Chicago from Denver for Brunetti's job as a technical sales consultant for a medical firm.
And even though Brunetti didn't buy Chris in that charity auction, they met that night and sparks flew.
"Chris is so romantic," she said about his proposal. "He got up really early and said, 'I'm going to put coffee on, and he started playing music. He said, 'So, what do you want to do?' I said, 'I'm doing what I want, I'm sleeping.' He says, 'Do you want to get married?' He had this whole speech planned, but he got all nervous and didn't know what to say.
I said, 'Of course.' "
Ryan will stand up for Chris, and Ryan and Trista's son, Max (who will be 11 months old in June), will be the ring bearer.
"Trista's going to make a little backpack and Ryan will carry him down the aisle. He has a little tux, it will be so cute," Brunetti said.
WIN ONE, LOSE ONE: Broomfield Event Center boss John Frew has been taking some ribbing from his two daughters Lindsey, 15, and Shelby, 12, ever since his wife, Marcia Frew, won a seat on the Cherry Hills Village City Council last month.
You may recall that Frew's political attempt was less successful when he lost to Wellington Webb in the 1995 mayoral race.
"Our daughters have gotten a lot of mileage out of me losing and her winning, but I don't mind," John said.
"I think it is a healthy sign of the political times that another Democrat can get elected in a solidly GOP neighborhood."
TOP CHEFS: Two of Colorado's top toques, Frank Bonanno (Mizuna, Luca D'Italia) and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson (Frasca Food & Wine in Boulder), will combine their culinary talent for a fundraising dinner June 2 at Luca D'Italia, 711 Grant St.
Vendors donate the food and liquor and the wait staff donates their time, so every cent collected goes directly to the neurology department at Children's Hospital where the Bonannos' son, Luca, had brain surgery three years ago.
Cocktails at 5:30; five-course dinner at 6. Cost: $350 per person or $600 for patron level.
Reservations: 303-832- 6600.
EAVESDROPPING on two men at Elway's in Cherry Creek:
"My son's been with his partner for three years."
"That's like 21 in gay years."
