Shortly after 3 p.m., Billy Compton, the political director for the Colorado Democratic Party, took the stage at the World Arena, told a heckler to shut up and announced “We are at the most pivotal point in the convention. I need your attention.”
Compton then outlined in detail the process for voting for the final delegates to the Democratic National Convention in August in Denver.
Conventioneers were going to elect 12-at large delegates and two alternates. The number of candidates running as Barack Obama supporters created a 70-page ballot, while the number of Hillary Clinton supporters running created a 46-page ballot.
More than 6,000 Democrats conventioneers were expected today at the Colorado Democratic Party convention, with about 6,500 serving as delegates allowed to vote in the DNC balloting.
In addition, the conventioneers were to elect seven delegates who party leaders in some way, either a precinct committee chair, elected official or such.
Party officials said the results won’t be known until likely Monday.

The Democratic State Convention was huge success with a record number of good, motivated Democrats coming together to advance their grassroots movement to determine the final Democratic candidate. I heard only the cries of support for 2 excellent candidates. People on the floor were engaged in "dialogue" with one another. Hillary and Obama people sat together united in their goal to elect a Democrat to the White House. We recognized the need to cooperatate not compete. I realize that this concept is perhaps foreign to those who chose to comment on this article. But, let me assure you the mentioned incident took place after a long day and it was a mere 2 second exchange hardly worth mentioning. The swelling of enthusiasm is a welcome ray of hope in these dark days in this country. We want our country back and we want to be America again. I suggest that you talk to the people who were there today and "listen" to some new ideas. It really isn't so scary to listen to another idea and consider it for a moment. You might surprise you to know that it wont kill you to cooperate instead of competing all the time. There is less destruction and meaness and you might actually learn something new!
You might smile and feel human again.

Hmm. The headline on this story suggests that the Democratic National Committee (the DNC) is at a "pivotal point." Doesn't sound like that's what the reporter was saying in this account of the Colorado Democratic Party Convention. Maybe a real copy editor should have looked at this.

Barron-
Childish nicknames have become epidemic, unfortunately, since right-wing talk radio has flooded the airwaves in the last 20 years or so. Conservative voices command most of the airwaves, yet all the pious talking heads can complain about is the "liberal media." Amazing. People like Hannity and Limbaugh have done nothing for the conservatives in this country, other than promote the stereotype of the mean-spirited, hateful right-winger who shouts folks down with half-truths and innuendo and calls it a winning argument. Watch Hannity sometime - he constantly harangues his guests into agreeing with some half-truth so he can hang some idiotic label on them. Good TV, but not really conducive to productive dialog.

Sure...talk radio gurus mix and pour the koolaid, and people who don't think for themselves drink it up. I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush here. Just because you listen to these guys doesn't mean you don't have your own opinions. Unfortunately, though, I've spoken to too many people and read too many posts where folks just regurgitate what Limbaugh and his ilk spout without regard to facts or perspective. It's quite frustrating.

The answer is, he has them ARRESTED!

This comment thread has been an insult to legitimate democratic discourse. Sasquatch, do you really believe that calling others names and advocating for violence is a responsible means to your desired ends? If this array of discussion further permeates our public sphere, the foundations of our country and society are at serious risk of collapse and dissolution.

It truly is hilarious to read most of the hardcore right-wingers on these boards. Gene, who needs answers repeated several times(talkradiokoolaid already answered your question), sasquatch with his always informative anecdotal evidence on global warming, and the rest of the lot that resort to name calling and arguments that are at about a 3rd grade level. Their arguments are usually just regurgitated half-digested ideas that they got from Faux News or Limbaugh and those of that ilk. Most of the republicans on these boards show themselves as flag-waving jingoist, fundamentalist, xenophobic fascists. Why do you want riots? Why do you want to see police bust heads? As someone who supposedly values freedom above all else(a true conservative ideology), why would you want to see the state exercise extreme power and violence towards it's citizens? The truth is you don't want freedom at all. You want everyone who disagrees with you to have their heads busted. True freedom is listening to others ideas and having a public debate, and you just can't handle that. You can't comprehend or fathom the possible idea that you might have an idea in your head that is wrong. Therefore you will never change, you will never adapt to the changes the world throws at you. You are the reason why millions of true freedom loving americans will never vote republican. Your ideas of hate and intolerance are coming to an end. If there are true conservatives left in america, they're most likely not found within the republican party(ron paul being one of the few exceptions).

I'd like to point out to those who were not there, the incident regarding Billy telling the guy to shut up happened after the gentleman in question was rudely interrupting Billy. He was explaining the voting procedure & the man was shouting about something that had nothing to do with what was taking place at that time. Billy had asked him to stop. Nearly everyone in the arena told him to stop. The man did not stop and became rather belligerent. That's when Billy told him to shut up & the man flipped everyone off.

'Dreaming of riots' - so, you want injuries, destruction of property, possible death? Anyone who would aggree with the statement 'Dreaming of riots . . ." is a moron, pure and simple.
Buy them a one way ticket to anywhere, preferably Prague, where riots are a common event, so they can enjoy the 'riot action' from the view of a Prague Police Vehicle on the way to prison.
Please do the research and look up the past events in, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Boston. Many hardworking people lost their businesses, jobs, and one individual in Boston lost her life during a riot. Yes Virginia, people can actually die in riots, and you are ' dreaming of riots'.
Obviously, you have never been in or experienced one. I will bet anything the parents of the young lady who died in Boston would have an opposing point of view.
People have the right to 'peacefully' assemble and state their point of view, but to use any form of violence, use property damage, vandalism, or 'extreme-demonstrating' are wrong. It is this few that will cause the trouble if any, here in Denver and cause the local taxpayers to brunt the bills for their ill decisions.
If Hickenlooper, the City Council and their cronies, do not bring out the heavy guns, relying on the experts of events past and keep the peace as they are sworn to do, make sure the impeachment hearings start ". .on the bloody morning after."
And to those who wish to 'disrupt' events, I hope Denver's finest and those assisting them, give you everything and more that you deserve.

Ah, Jacka, yet more talk radio regurgitation. Why don't you folks just send us the transcripts and save everybody a lot of grief? How much are the Republicans spending on their coronation party, and don't you think those funds could be put to better use advancing whatever pet causes they espouse? I know it's hard to stick to issues like the war, health care, jobs, the deficit, and oh yes, the war, when your talk radio gods are spending all their time trying to be funny. Why don't you talk about what your party is actually going to do about the real problems our country faces, instead of working up your next Limbaugh or Hannity insult? Then we might be able to have actual dialog on this forum.
