MillerCoors execs moving?

Molson Coors and SABMiller are mulling whether to locate the top executives for the MillerCoors joint U.S. venture in a spot other than Golden or Milwaukee, Molson Coors CEO Leo Kiely said.

"There will be some consideration to the need to pull a relatively small team of leadership together someplace," Kiely told reporters after the company's annual meeting in Denver.

Kiely's comments apparently are the first he has made publicly on the matter. Molson Coors Vice Chairman Pete Coors said in February that Molson Coors and SABMiller are expected to locate the headquarters of MillerCoors in a locale other than Denver or Milwaukee.

"Pete spoke for himself on that," Kiely said.

Sources told the Rocky Mountain News earlier this year the joint venture partners were strongly mulling Chicago or Dallas as headquarters sites. The joint venture will combine the U.S. operations of both companies, Coors Brewing and Miller Brewing.

Kiely - who will be the MillerCoors CEO - said the companies haven't decided where to locate the top executives.

"We're not sure whether we've got 20 people or 120 people that we're talking about - or what the dimensions are."

Kiely said the new venture will involve the two brewers keeping large presences in Golden and Milwaukee - the respective hometowns of Coors and Molson.

"Right now, we're going through . . . the analysis so that the leadership team, once convened, can decide what functions will remain in Golden, what functions may be more appropriate in Milwaukee."

Kiely said a decision on where to put the leadership team is unlikely to occur before the MillerCoors joint venture wins approval from federal regulators. Molson Coors and SABMiller expect to win final clearance and formally close on the joint venture by midyear.

If Dallas or Chicago Strip another Headquarters from the Denver area, I will be sick. Chicago is hardly a neutral site, Milwaukee is practically an exo-burb of Chicago! The headquarters has to be in Denver, or the deal has to be called off. Plain and simple!

Maybe a Coors Field name change in the making too? Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Methinks Colorado Koolade has been globalized. South African Brewries (SAB) bought out Miller (#2), Molson (Canada) bought out Coors and now SAB now controls the whole Charlie Foxtrot. SAB should require all the execs to office in Capetown, SA. At least Busch Stadium is legit for a while.

    Jim-
"Molson (Canada) bought out Coors and now SAB now controls the whole Charlie Foxtrot" is an inaccurate statement. First, Molson and Coors merged, Molson did not "buy out" Coors. Second, Miller and Coors are working on a joint venture for U.S. operations only. Third, Molson Coors and SAB Miller will still be separate companies; SAB will not be "at the controls" as you so eloquently put it. The U.S. operations will be called Miller Coors. Please get your facts straight and think before speaking.
