This weekend, Colorado State University will send the largest graduating class in its 138-year history out into a world.

More than 3,500 CSU seniors and grad students will don gowns and mortar boards in a series of ceremonies in Moby Gym on the Fort Collins campus today and Saturday. That's 500 more than last year and nearly 700 more than the Class of 2003.

The largest group this spring - 2,654 - will be awarded bachelor's degrees.

The bumper crop of graduates reflects a national trend, as the so-called echo-boomer generation - 80 million strong and the largest group of U.S. young people since the 1960s - continues to come of age. Born between 1982 and 1995, they are the children of the baby boomers.

The trend isn't expected to change anytime soon: This year's high school graduating classes across the country are the largest in history.

At CSU, applications for the Class of 2012 are up 14 percent from last year's total of 15,538.

I was at the Museum of Nature and Science yesterday with my kids. I was in line waiting at the gift shop and met a woman who was from California and was in town to see her daughter graduate from CSU. While standing there she told me all in the space of a minute , her daughter was the only one of 5 of her children that has graduated from college, the girl graduating was the baby of the family and the best thing of all was the only one to give her a grandchild. I wish the graduate well. Good Luck to all the grads.
