FORT COLLINS The Colorado High School Activities Association is investigating two Arapahoe High School lacrosse players who are accused of cheating in a state playoff game.
The alleged play was caught on tape during a game against Fort Collins.
The two players do a move known as the "hidden ball trick." The players huddle, then break, leaving the opposing team guessing who has the ball.
The videotape showed in this case, one of the players hid the ball in his glove, then pulled it out when no one was looking and scored a goal.
"What they did was innappropriate and unethical," said Rob Gormley, a youth lacrosse coach who said he knows both players. "It's bad not just to themselves, but Arapahoe High School and the lacrosse community in general."
The Arapahoe Athletic Director released a statement saying the school doesn't condone behavior outside the rules. The school will be following up with the players.
CHSAA said sanctions are pending the investigation.

Look out all you cheaters in pro-wrestling who distract the ref while someone sneaks up and hits the opponent with a chair. You're next!

Why is anyone surprised? Cheating and poor sportsmanship are commonplace in youth sports. I always think I've heard it all and then I go watch one of my boys play ball - football, basketball or baseball and the things that come out of the mouths of other parents and players is appalling.
Racial taunts on the field. Dads yelling at their kids to take out the catcher. Run over the first baseman, etc.
A win at all cost mentality that doesn't teach kids anything about fairness and playing just for the love of the game.

Hidden ball(s) seemed to work well for this last legislative session. Youngsters are just role-modeling. Of course, that assumes they had any to start with....

True story: minor league baseball game. guy on third base, pitcher pitches the ball, catcher catches it and throws wildly down to third base. It sails over the 3rd baseman's head into left field. The runner on third breaks for home but when he gets to the plate the catcher tags him out with the ball.
The catcher had peeled a potato and hidden it in his pocket. He threw the potato into left field. It was white so the runner thought it was a ball and took off.
Of course, the umpire ruled that the run counted.
Don't forget the hidden (legal ) ball trick by a first baseman. I have seen it work at all levels.

Dudes! That's like not fair" and they're like "what, us?" and it's like funny.....So, we like won the game, right? It's cool.

It is obvious to me that so many people are unaware of the rules of lacrosse. The "hidden ball trick" is no more than a change of possession penalty. There is no type of cheating associated with the trick, it is merely a penalty. Would you want a kid to be banned from lacrosse for committing a slash? Back east where lacrosse is a more common game than here in Colorado the trick is seen regularly. The boys that are involved are fabulous lacrosse players and people who do not understand the game should back off until they know what they are talking about! It should never be said that the coaches are probably involved in a derogatory manner. These coaches are dedicated and well respected individuals.

With all due respect momof3, you are correct, the hidden ball trick has been used for years, the hiding of the ball in a glove to score a goal has been illegal since he early 1900's with the Indins who orignated the game.
No doubt that the boys involved are great kids, but according to www.CBS4DENVER.com, they just cost their team the ability to play any post season games next year per CHSAA.
I think I do know what I am talking about, if you don't believe me, just click the link I gave you.
