Old Man Winter “may” get one more at bat this week.
On Sunday afternoon, as sunshine warmed the temperature to the low 70s, the National Weather Service had forecast a cold rainy Monday with up to three inches of snow possible for the Denver Metro area by Tuesday morning.
While late spring snowstorms are relatively rare for May, they are not unheard of. Here are some examples from the Weather Service historical records of when April showers gave way to May snowstorms.
The average May snowfall is 1.3 inches.
The snowiest May occured in 1989, when Denver had 15.5 inches of snowfall.
The most snow Denver ever had in a 24-hour period in May came in 1950, when 10.7 inches of snow fell.
The coldest May came in 1917, when the average daily temperature hovered around 48.7 degrees.
The average date of the last freeze is May 5, but the latest last freeze on record happened on June 8, 2007.
The average date of the last snowfall is April 27, however, the latest record date for a late spring snowstorm was June 12, 1947.
In the last 8 years, the latest date for measurable snow came on May 24, 2002.
On that date, 2 to 4 inches of snow helped crews tame a 4,000-acre wildfire near Deckers. Up to 20 inches fell in the foothills and beyond.
Most Mays, though, are better known for flowers rather than flurries. Since 1882, the National Weather Service has counted 39 Mays with no snowfall at all.

Yes, Sasquatch. It wouldn't be the same without your window test. Everything in life is as it appears out your little window.
Really.

Not quite yet there Sasquatch. It will get close to 80 deg. today.
Look out your little window tomorrow and pass judgement on the global climate. I'm sure you can see everything, everywhere, from your little window. Why algore and Co. doesn't consult you directly is a mystery to me.
