A Kerry-like Udall
Gordon J. Johnson, Broomfield
Thursday, May 8, 2008
It is interesting that U.S. Rep. Mark Udall co-sponsored the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act (H.R. 4088) but has failed to sign the discharge petition that would enable Congress to vote on it. I guess there must be some in Congress who do not really believe in democracy and would prefer to play political games.
This reminds me of Sen. John Kerry's foolish remark that he had voted for some bill before he voted against it. I hope Colorado voters will not be tricked by Udall's charade.
I urge Udall to sign the discharge petition now so we can see if democracy works when it comes to a really critical piece of legislation designed to deal with the illegal alien problem.

He cannot do that Gordon because that will mean he has actually done something in his tenure as a congressman rather than just being the paperweight that he is in his chair.
The less he does the less he can be criticized for thus making it easier for him to slam Scaffer for actually trying and getting things done in his 6 years in congress.

Sorry Jack Bauer, but you're a little late in trying to spin Udall as the candidate known for being an ineffective legislator. Schaffer's own colleagues already beat you to the punch by freely admitting in news stories that are now months old that Schaffer's chief accomplishment was sticking to the term limit promise he made!
Across the board, REPUBLICANS say Schaffer didn't stay in office long enough to get anything actually measurably done. This seems to be a pattern with your guy in his private enterprise endeavors, as well. He was with Aspect Energy long enough to make one notable deal: exploration in Iraq, made possible by his vote to go to war there.
