A host of competing Colorado ballot initiatives filed by attorneys and those trying to curb lawyers' fees have been withdrawn after both sides reached a compromise.
The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association agreed to drop its plan to push several ballot measures after former state treasurer Mark Hillman said he would also withdraw an initiative that took aim at attorney contingency fees.
Discussions began after the lawyers filed nine separate initiatives that would have put limits on executive compensation and real estate brokers commissions, among other things.
"In situations like this one where you have two groups with opposing viewpoints, the best approach is to invite everyone to have meaningful dialogue and talk through the issues," said John Sadwith, executive director of the trial lawyers group. "I hope that other groups fighting initiative battles will use our successful negotiations as an incentive to continue their own discussions."
