Denver police ticketed Carmelo Anthony for speeding Saturday, the second traffic offense the Denver Nugget has racked up within three weeks.
The latest incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. when a Denver patrolman pulled Anthony over in the 2400 block of South Santa Fe Drive after clocking his vehicle at 15 to 19 miles over the 45 mph speed limit, police said.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the ticket does not require Anthony to make a court appearance. He can plead guilty and pay a $130 fine if he mails it in within 20 days, Jackson said.
However, the violation edges the Nugget closer to a situation where he might face a suspension of his driver's license.
According to the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles Web site, driving 15 to 19 miles in excess of the speed limit is a four-point violation.
Anthony, 23, already faces a possible 12-point violation after he was arrested April 14 on suspicion of drunken driving. In that case, a patrolman stopped him for driving erratically at 4 a.m. on southbound Interstate 25. That case is pending in Denver County Court.
The minimum the number of points to cause a suspension for an adult driver is 12 within a 12 month period, according to the DMV's point-suspension brochure.
It has been a difficult month for Anthony both on and off the court. His DUI arrest came just two games before the end of the regular season.
The Nuggets then lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in four straight games. After Game 3, Anthony complained that "we quit."

yeah, i'm sure there's a denver cop just waiting to bust carmelo anthony. i'm sure he'd jeapordize his job just to stake him out as opposed to going on the patrol he was assigned to...
better yet, i really bet the DPD waste thousands in resources each week to set up said officer to stake him out.
no, a cop saw a speeder, pulled him over and it was melo. and instead of playing favorites (i'd like to hear you justify why they should), he writes him a ticket like he'd do to you or i or anyone else speeding down santa fe.
"We are only hurting our children who look up to this guy."

This is the least newsworthy article that I have come across in quite some time (unless it is something about Paris Hilton or Britney Spears). Why report on a traffic ticket? What is the point?
To all those that call him a thug for getting a ticket and making mistakes at such a young age (23), let it rest. Are you jealous? Does it really matter all that much in your little lives what a sports figure or actor or starlet does? Do you put this much effort into blasting our lame duck president for making a decision to go to war against Iraq - a country that couldn't attack us in the first place?
Get your priorities straight and let the kid live his life. Tell me that you never have never sped when you drive and I will call you a hypocrite and a liar. Maybe that will make news too (it is just about as trivial as what is printed above).

He's not a kid, he's a 23-year-old man, who should use common sense.
Melo needs to follow ManGino Torreta's Two Rules for Not Getting Pulled Over for Speeding:
1) Go with the flow of traffic; and
2) Stay within 5 mph of the speed limit on residential streets, 10 mph on freeways.
I've gotten one ticket in 15 years of driving, and that's because I violated rule #2. It's not that difficult, and if a regular schlep like me can do it, so can Melo; and if not, like I posted earlier, he's got enough money to hire someone to drive him around.
It's all about common sense.

Carmelo, it's great to be a kid rolling the big wheel in life. You got popped for the big one: D.U.I.,; pal you spent your dime, you need to quit before you do some time! Find a church, learn to sing, and above all else make your mother proud! To the critical world, I'd take all this kid's problems to have a bit of his talent, and be recklessly young again. Youth always came with a great measure of forgiveness; It pains many to see great potential self destruct. However, some of the greatest achievers in history come from the fertile soils of adversity. Soon if you don't quit kid, you'll have a new group of friends!

Curious ... for all those who think that 'Melo's failures off-the-court should not be reported: Do you also agree that all of his accomplishments on the court should not be reported either?
The unfortunate fact for Carmelo Anthony is that he is a public figure and all of his activities (both on the job and off) will be scrutinized. Some will be praised, some will be criticized, but nearly all will be publicized.
Yes, he's young ... yes, he will make mistakes ... and yes, he will have to deal with the consequences of those mistakes. But he's "in the public eye" and we are watching.
This is "front page" news because it's difficult to comprehend how someone who just got arrested for suspicion of D.U.I., has a pending court date, and will likely lose his license because of the arrest chooses to speed on a stretch of road that is fairly heavily patrolled for speeders.
The judge in his D.U.I case is going to have a difficult time justifying allowing him to keep his driver's license after two offenses in such a short time span.

I doubt he was targeted - "Speed traps" and other strickt enforcement on S. Santa Fe have been the situation there than most areas for a long time - most who drive that stretch of road know that...
It's a place to watch your speed.
(Take that from someone who used to drive in that area of Denver several times daily..)
Carmelo was going 15 over - not 5 or 10 - which under about 10MPH over he well may not have been stopped.
15 over in a 45 posses a danger to the rest of the people on the road. He broke the law - and it is entirely appropriate that he got stopped and ticketed. His DUI should have nothing to do with it!
I will add tho - after all the comments after his DUI stop, that he had only two drinks etc. then comes up with a BAC over .14...
He should have never got behind the wheel, and he well should have been able to know that - for at his age (unless he had been drinking heavily for 7 or 8 years) That is a very high BAC.
They should treat him as they would anyone else with no prior, but I doubt they will - the average guy's first DUI at that level would have a good chance of getting reduced to a DWAI. (Even though the sentencing would be about the same) I doubt that will happen to Carmelo or any other public figure.
He Screwed up. Now he has to face the results of that.
I hope for his case that he gets it together and does not repeat, or do anything worse. He is a young man - hopefully he learns form this

Winning it back at the DMV is next to impossible and even if you do and then are found guilty in Court, you will still lose it.
It's kinda like double jeopardy for a single crime but they do it and get away with it.
They have it down to a gnats arse now on Dewy's.
I don't think he is getting special treatment even though I don't like the gang banga wantabe thug.
I just went thru it about 6 years ago and it is not fun.
Now if one gets busted with a high BAC, like Mello did, they have to have a interlock system in the vehicle they plan to drive for a couple years after they complete all the court requirements including losing their license for whatever period of time according to their past record.

To top it off, he can't even be bothered to use English ("man up" is neither a verb nor an adverb). What an ego. So completely self-serving.
