McCain's voice in PA message causes concerns to fly at airport

John McCain's voice-over is among 30 to 40 taped voices.

John McCain's voice-over is among 30 to 40 taped voices.

The voice of U.S. Sen. John McCain greets passengers at Pitkin County Airport, warning them about new security regulations and asking them to enjoy their stay in the mountain paradise of Aspen.

But not, likely, for long.

McCain, the presumed GOP nominee for president, was recruited about a year ago as part of a campaign to use the voices of celebrities and average Joes to make the airport's public-address announcements, Pitkin County community relations director Pat Bingham said.

Someone complained about the voice-over perhaps giving McCain an edge in November's election.

"My druthers are to pull it off," Bingham said. "I don't want to tip the scales of this election. We could take him off and then put him back on after November. The last thing we want to do is bother anybody."

Bingham said it was her idea to recruit locals and celebrities to make the PA announcements, some of which are required by the Federal Aviation Administration.

She said the idea was hatched last spring while the airport was closed to resurface the runway.

"I thought it would be fun to have different voices giving the messages," she said. "Maybe some locals, maybe some visiting celebrities, which we get a lot of."

She said Pitkin County Airport has about 30 or 40 of the taped voices, so there's no worry airport visitors will be lacking information if McCain is taken out of the rotation until November.

"They're not all serious," Bingham said of the taped announcements. "Some are just goofy or fun, like (Olympic snowboarder) Chris Klug saying 'I'll look for you on the slopes.' "

Jodie Evans, co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, is a huge Obama supporter who has personally given his campaign the federal limit ($2,300) and continues to collect big bucks—$50,000 and counting—from friends and associates in an effort to help the Illinois senator, a favorite among Latin American socialist leaders, move into the White House.

Code Pink bills itself as a grassroots, women’s peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq. Members say they reject the Bush Administration’s fear-based politics that justify violence, instead calling for policies based on compassion and kindness.

That evidently includes compassion and kindness towards Islamic terrorists who murder Americans. The group actually gave $600,000 to help Iraqi terrorist in Fallujah fight U.S. military forces and its “counter-recruitment” campaign has harassed, vandalized and impeded U.S. military recruiters across the nation.

Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.

Obama served on the Wood's Fund board alongside William C. Ayers, a member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to overthrow of the U.S. government and took responsibility for bombing the U.S. Capitol in 1971.

Ayers, who still serves on the Woods Fund board, contributed $200 to Obama's senatorial campaign fund and has served on panels with Obama at numerous public speaking engagements. Ayers admitted to involvement in the bombings of U.S. governmental buildings in the 1970s. He is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

He was convicted of wire tapping during the water gate scandle. and his sentence was commuted by president Jimmy CarterA demo. So if he was so evil why did the opposing partys president commute his sentence?

Holekeeper, I tried to stay away from RMN for awhile, but your last comment wheeled me back in. What is this "shut down" you speak of and where do you get the notion that all I do is insult others? Its very rare to find a comment from MaxInEnglewood in the RMN and the few times I actually do comment, its definitely related to the article. I chose to "attack" you today because its frustrating reading an article about one topic, then reading comments about a completely different subject- what does Barack Obama not wearing a flag pin have to do with an Aspen airport not wanting John McCain's voice anymore? It's people like you that get these forums heated and off on an unnecessary tangent, which in turn, prevents the people that actaully have something relevant to say from being heard. Unfortunately, you are entitled to your own opinion, you are right about that, but it always helps when your opinion actually fits the area of the situation.

If these 5 did so bad why did President Clinton appoint one of the members as Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation I bet he had a look at those FBI files you are hooked on. Robert S. Bennett was the special Investigator in this matter and also had a look at these FBI files, but decided to defend Mccain. This tells me that the FBI files have nothing in them that would harm Mccain in any way.
