Greyhound track on edge

It appears that changes will happen at Mile High Greyhound Park this summer.
In a worst-case scenario, those changes could be drastic.
Speculation has been raised that the track in Commerce City might shut its doors permanently, perhaps as soon as July 1. At the very least, the track appears poised to significantly reduce its schedule.
"At this point, I understand they are looking at their options and considering scaling back," Colorado Racing Commission director Dan Hartman said. "I do not have anything in writing yet."
Hartman expects to receive something from the track in the next few days, and the issue would be brought to the table at a commission meeting May 13.
Hartman could not yet say whether he believes the track is in jeopardy of closing.
"I've heard a lot of dates and the rumor mill - people saying July 1, the end of July, the beginning of September," Hartman said. "The racing industry as a whole is slow, so I believe they're looking at what schedule might best fit the trend."
Mile High Greyhound Park general manager Bruce Seymour did not return a phone message.

the troubles with racing in this state are the direct result of twenty years of being mismanaged in the private sector and over thirty years of gross incompetence at the Colorado racing commission. all you have to do is look at some of the political hacks (i.e. Irving Hook, Leo Cefkin, et al) that have been appointed to oversee racing to understand why its in the sorry state its in today.
