Regional scene: DU women's lacrosse reaches MPSF final

Junior Steph Coyne contributed four goals and three assists and junior Megan Carver added a hat trick and four assists as the No. 17 University of Denver women's lacrosse team beat Oregon 18-12 in the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Thursday in Berkeley, Calif.

The victory sends the top-seeded Pioneers (13-5) to the MPSF Tournament final for the third straight season. DU awaits its next opponent - the winner of the California-Stanford semifinal - for the 2 p.m. MDT championship match Saturday.

EAGLES LOSE GAME 1 The Colorado Eagles couldn't stave off a hat trick by Arizona's Cory Urquhart as the Sundogs won Game 1 of the Central Hockey League's President's Cup Finals 6-4 in Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Game 2 is at 8 p.m. Saturday.

SKY SOX WIN Cory Sullivan's three-run home run led the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (12-14) to a 5-1 victory against the host Nashville Sounds (7-19).

NBA FUN PARK NBA Nation will kick off in Denver on Saturday and Sunday at the Cinco de Mayo "Celebrate Culture" Festival at Civic Center Park.

The 20,000 square-foot basketball theme park also will feature an appearance from 2-3 p.m. Saturday by Nuggets center Marcus Camby.

RMAC SCHEDULE DELAYED The opening day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball tournament at the Colorado School of Mines softball field in Golden and Long Lake Ranch Park in Arvada was postponed because of snow and poor field conditions.

The original schedule of games will take place Friday, with the remaining schedule pushed back one day. The championship game will be held Sunday.

* The start time of the Colorado Mines baseball game Friday against Nebraska-Kearney has been changed to 5 p.m. at Darden Field in Golden.

* CSU-Pueblo baseball has rescheduled its game against Regis to 5 p.m. Sunday. Also, the Saturday doubleheader has been moved back to a 2 p.m. start.

METRO STATE RESIGNATION Metro State men's and women's tennis coach Dave Alden resigned, assuming the same role at Washburn University.

RAMS HIRE ASSISTANT Colorado State women's basketball coach Kristen Holt announced the hiring of Tia Davis, completing her coaching staff for the 2008-09 season.
