— A 32-year-old man received the maximum six-year sentence Friday in connection with a hit-and-run that killed an 8-year-old boy riding a go-cart with his brother in Westminster last June.

Sean Daniels pleaded guilty to two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence. A 15-month sentence for two traffic offenses will run currently with the six-year sentence.

Quinton Von Duyke died at the scene of the accident and his 10-year-old brother, Kaeden, was injured.

Prosecutors said Daniels could hear responding sirens and a Flight for Life helicopter landing at the scene after he fled and to his home nearby. Daniels was arrested five days later after investigators found evidence that led them to the truck he was driving.

Von Duyke family members filled the courtroom and wept as Quinton's two brothers, two sisters, parents and grandparents pleaded with the judge to impose the maximum sentence.

Daniels, who had been free on $50,000 bond since last summer, was led away in handcuffs, calling out to family and friends who came to support him, "It'll be all right. I love you all."

To the family who lost your child.I am so sorry my nephew died in a accident last year riding his bicycle.
he was riding downhill and he lost control and hit a pickup truck. He died instantly,so I feel your pain and just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss.To the man who hit and ran if you had stayed and talked to the officers,it might have been ruled accidental and you would be free today. Also fleeing and providing no comfort to that child as he lay dying was the act of a coward.

This is a horrible situation.

The guy who left the scene got what he deserved. He probably panicked but that's no excuse.

That doesn't mean if he would have stayed the outcome would have been any different.

Does anyone know if the people who were responsible for the children were brought up on charges? In my opinion they are just as responsible for this tragic death, if not more so.

There's not a chance in hell my kids are driving any motorized vehicle around the streets.

I have not seen this angle covered by the media at all. The details of the accident have not been covered either.

My prayers go out to the VonDuyke family and especially to Quinton who period of healing will take longer due to his witnessing the accident. I also pray for Sean, who to anyone who knows him, is a good person dispite his extreme lack of judgement and very poor way of handling this accident. For nutmg1 to say he got what he deserved is an rash statement just due to them not knowing either parties involved. I'm not saying that Sean shouldn't be punished, or that he doesn't have blame in this awful situation, because he does. I just don't want him grouped into the class of uncaring, horrible repeat DUI offenders. He is a good person who made a terrible decision and a poor boy had his life taken from him because of it. May GOD's grace be with everyone in this situation because NOBODY got what they deserved.
