Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall is unhappy he has been characterized as a bad guy.

Story Tools

— Calling his serious arm injury “a wake-up call,” Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall addressed the media today and alternately talked about the need to grow up while lashing out at critics who have labeled him a bad guy for his off-field exploits.

Marshall, wearing a bulky cast that immobilized his right arm above the elbow and a sling, also insisted the horseplay that resulted in surgery and a 3-4 month recovery while wrestling with his brother last weekend shouldn’t be lumped into previous off-field incidents.

“I didn’t hurt anybody. I’m hurt,” said Marshall, who ended up suffering lacerations to one artery, one vein, one nerve, two tendons and three muscles in his right forearm, all of which were repaired surgically. “It wasn’t a street fight or anything like that. It was in the confines of a resort with family members. Did my mother beat me up or my little nieces and nephews,? No. It was just a freak accident.”

Marshall expressed surprise his injury had become national news.

He joked that it meant he’d finally “arrived.”

But he also knows previous incidents might have put a harsher light on him this time around.

“I didn’t do a good job my rookie year and with things I’ve done, but I’m a good person,” he said. “. . . And I guarantee the good outweighs the bad.”

Marshall expressed remorse for a pending drunken-driving charge and an earlier domestic dispute in which charges were dropped, and that he’s making a conscious effort to be “clean-cut” from now on so that he can attain his lofty goals.

“It is time for me to grow up on and off the field,” he said. “I’m not just a guy on the team. I’m a starter and I have a lot of responsibility.”

why is it any business of the public to know Brandon's injury in detail?
He apparently doesn't have the same rights as anyone else when it comes to protected health information.

I like what he bring to the offense and dont get me wrong. I'm not picking on him. I'm glad that we got him on our side...better him with us then with the Baiders... I just think that it has a nice ring to Brandon Marshall... He is big and when denfense try to tackle him he gives them the "MAC" and I'm sure you seen those trying (notice the word "trying") tackle him... He squish them like those bic mac sauce.... GO BRANDON "BIG MAC" MARSHALL!!!!

Yeah Princess, I remember and tell you the truth...Marshall does remind me alot of Eddie also....man could you just imagine the duol... oce was Rod and Eddie... then almost another of.... Walker and Marshall.... man can u just see that combo deal... but Walker, well no comment there... I just hope we can find some one fit with Marshall so we can have another combo like Rod and Eddie... that would be awsome again.... I think Bic Mac will still work for Brandon.... It is new and present right now.... so it would have a nice appeal to the younger crowd anyway

What is a 'duol'? Big Mac? Just like Big-I'm-not-here-to-talk- about-the-past-Mac? Anyone heard from THAT Big Mac lately?

Posted by SE7EN on March 27, 2008 at 1:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Brian, I think it was Brandon who broke the story publicly and explained his own injury a few days ago, no? If he wanted to keep it quiet, he could have been quiet about it. Oh well, better we hear about this, than the whole domestic issue from last year.

I just hope Big Mac doesn't start riding motorcycles anytime soon.

His career is OVER.
"lacerations to one artery, one vein, one nerve, two tendons and three muscles in his right forearm, all of which were repaired surgically."
His career is OVER. 'Big Mac' will have problems with that injury, always. He is going to have trouble catching the ball, he's going to drop it, regularly. He can not come back from this injury and be effective.
(a little reverse psychology going on here)

I think it became public info when he showed up to court on his DUI in a sling.

"it's time to grow up..."
Geez ol' golly... you think?

Nerve laceration. I don't see how he will ever be the same. Time to look at finding another receiver to replace him.

Dr. R8R_H8R you are wanted in the ER. Dr. R8R_H8R to the ER please...

Big Mac needs to order "hold the special sauce" and it won't be so slippery. There's a reason why he went in the 4th round. Just like Marcus Thomas.

The fact that he has an injury doesn't give the public the "right" to know the details. Ok, if he gave the details thats his prerogative although it does seem that whenever a pro athlete gets injured that the media/fans (i'm not sure who) expect details while the "patient" has a right to keep it confidential (Nene).

Mostly my point is that its strange how they don't seem to have the same right as the rest of us.

Yea right b. Marsh. The truth is he slipped on a used condom in that hotel room, while tyring to creep out of a pitch black room. If you would have just turned the light on and said goodbye the proper way!

"It is time for me to grow up on and off the field,” he said. “I’m not just a guy on the team. I’m a starter and I have a lot of responsibility.”

NO S#IT, Sherlock!!

Marshall, Broncos, and the press now have a deal.

One more fu@%up, and he gets the Clinton Portis trade / adios asap.

About time he grew up, show the Broncos and the fans that you get it. Start with common sense and then move forward, I know it is a big leap for young men that make too much money, but it is time to get your act together.

Mike going to TRADE him. Watch!

Could be worse instead of b. Marsh we could have t. Owens! The guy who gets his period twice a month instead of once a month like most women!

Last of all.. What these men fail to realize is they have the money to pay someone to drink for them, pay someone to drive drunk for them, pay someone to cheat and beat up on their wives and girlfriends....

Who labeled him a " bad guy "? I think the label has been along the lines of "MORON"! First you do something stupid, then you make up a story that even Brian Griese would have been smart enough to avoid using. On top of that you now claim all this extra press means that you've "arrived" in the national media? Maybe " MORON " is'nt quite strong enough, but I don't want to tax Brandon's brain with anything more complicated. Just be happy that stupidity is'nt illegal or you might be on Death Row!

Time to sober up.

Little late to start "growing up" now..you already damaged your arm to where you will never be the same reciever again..brilliant move..now you can wrestle with your family all you want..whoever loses gets to pick up the BIG MACS. Better yet..just bring them home with you from work at your new job..I thought we finally had another pro bowl reciever..so much for that idea!

Most of these comments look like they were written by little kids. Big Mac? How dumb. For all of you that hate Shanahan, who would you get to replace him. Aside from Bill Cowher there isn't another guy available that might be better than Mike. It's one thing to honestly evaluate and even critcize player talent, coaching and draft quality. It's another to mindlessly complain about every little that happens on the team. Grow up.

what a bunch of 'bandwagon' whiners....nobody here is a true bronco fan...always some dumb comment to say. yeah the Broncos are in a funk, but a true fan sticks with the team thick and thin. oh and 'HBBeough'...some of the best players in the league have been drafted in the late rounds. oh look, here's a few: Karl Mecklenburg (310th overall),Shannon Sharpe (192nd overall), Terrell Davis (196th overall), Rod Smith (undrafted) and some non broncos who are great late round picks (tom brady, herschel walker, zach thomas, jay novacek...to name a few)....losers

Come on people! Regardless of whether a McDonald's bag was involved or not since when do we question a guy's integrity for wrestling with a brother. To me it speaks positively that he was with his family on a vacation. He wasn't hanging out in a strip club, shooting someone (a.k.a. a star defensive back) or accidently overdosing (a.k.a. T. Owens) or any other number of "character" issues that have marked NFL prima donas.

Brandon, next time don't let your brother get the best of you. Work hard and I hope your recovery goes well. We need you!
