The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Greg Lopez, currently head of the Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council, as its new district director.

Lopez replaces Patricia Barela Rivera, who retired early this year after nearly 11 years in the position.

The Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council helps minority businesses build relationships with government and other businesses.

Lopez served in the Air Force from 1983 to 1987 before moving to Colorado. In 1992, he was elected mayor of Parker.

Lopez served on the Denver Hispanic Chamber board of directors for five years and was its interim president in 2004. He is co-owner of GNL Concepts LLC, which provides project management consulting.

“When you look for a new director for an SBA district office, you look for someone who is the right fit for the office, right for our SBA partners and right for the community the office serves. We have found that person in Greg Lopez,” SBA Administrator Steve Preston said in a statement.
