The baby involved in the serious car accident Saturday on U.S. 85 in Weld County was found to be unhurt, but the woman believed to be her mother suffered serious injuries, and faces three charges, the Colorado State Patrol said today.
Cherub Acosta, 23, was airlifted to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley after the pickup she was driving went off U.S. 85 near Weld County Road 84 between Nunn and Pierce at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses said the silver GMC 2003 pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran off the road, hit a ditch and rolled.
The infant was in a child safety seat, but not in a rear-facing safety seat as required by Colorado law, state trooper Ryan Sullivan said.
Alcohol or drugs are suspected as a reason for the crash.
Acosta will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and child abuse, Sullivan said.

Irresponsible reporting here. In the professional code-of-ethics, this reporter has an obligation, as does the corporation.
This "accident" happened almost 24 hours ago.
Where is the "follow ?"
Is the driver licensed ? Driver's age. Driver's priors ?
Is the vehicle insured ?
Was the driver "under the influence ?"
What does the OFFICIAL on-site officer's report say ?
What do witnesses tell us about the vehicle operation before the crash ?
..
