Protesters rip DNC lottery

Group: 'Dangerous situation' created after loss of permit

Denver could face a "dangerous situation" on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, war protesters said Thursday, after losing a coveted permit for Civic Center to the convention host committee.

"When things blow up because the police have to enforce a permit that the Democrats got, don’t blame us for that," said Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer for the Re-create 68 Alliance.

"Blame the Democrats for trying to silence dissent in the city of Denver."

The lottery for permits to protest, pray or hold other events in city parks during the DNC Aug. 24 through 28 resumed Thursday after the city bungled the drawing Tuesday by accidentally leaving out some of the applicants' names.

The do-over went smoothly.

But when Jenny Anderson, event planner for the Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee, won the permit for Civic Center for a kick-off Aug. 24, Spagnuolo accused the committee of creating a "very serious, dangerous situation . . . for everybody."

Re-create 68 - which has promised demonstrations that will rival those at the bloody 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago - will be at Civic Center on Aug. 24, with or without a permit, he said.

The group, which is expecting up to 50,000 protesters from across the country, plans to march from Civic Center to the Pepsi Center, where the convention will be held, on Aug. 24, even though a parade route or a security zone hasn’t been announced.

Spagnuolo and Mark Cohen, another protester, said that the host committee shouldn’t have been allowed to apply for park permits.

"They have the Pepsi Center," Spagnuolo said. "Now they’re taking one of the biggest public spaces in this city from the public."

But Chris Lopez, a committee spokesman, said that the Democratic National Committee - not the host committee - has control of the Pepsi Center.

"We have a whole host of events that we are planning for to be held on Sunday the 24th," he said. "Now that we know the Civic Center is an option for us, we can proceed with our plans with Civic Center in mind."

Lopez said he wasn’t concerned that Re-create 68 planned to show up at Civic Center on that day.

"Re-create 68 does not influence our plans," he said.

The protest group and its affiliates had increased their chances of getting a permit for Civic Center on Aug. 24 and other days by filling out multiple applications. But Anderson, who submitted only one application, ended up winning by the luck of the draw.

Some people observing the lottery attributed it to karma.

Katherine Archuleta, a senior adviser to Mayor John Hickenlooper, said that the city worked to develop a fair permitting process.

"Everybody had the same chance," she said.

What a shameful mess. And to allow the Democrat Party host committee to stifle dissent should be a sign for everyone that Obama-Clinton-McCain are just Bush politics are usual. We need a third party and real democracy.

This guy is a thug and a hoodlum masquerading behind the 1st Amendment - like his buddies Glenn Morris & Ward Churchill. They have no clue what the 1st Amendment means and what they do think it means with regard to "free speech" is that it only applies to them. If you want to hold a Columbus Day parade then you HAVE NO free speech rights according to Spagnoulo, Morris, and Churchill because they don't like Christopher Columbus. The 1st Amendment grants us all free speech - it DOES NOT guarantee or provide the venue or the soapbox from which we can exercise it. Any city is within its rights to grant parade permits or whatever mechanism they choose to try to maintain order in the streets when so many people converge in one place. As a Republican I am looking forward to this with delight. Let the nation and world see what the far left in the USA is all about. I am sure this will help with votes in November as it did in 1968 with Hubert Humphrey. Nixon won easily - especially when he talked about "law & order" as we are a nation of laws, not just "rights" for thugs like Spagnoulo.

There are no righteous reasons for disagreement, no honest differences of opinion, and no moral basis for opposing the Democrats. There are no people of conscience among the Republicans (except for the duped).

More bad news for the Democrats.

First, numerous polls are showing both Obama and Hillary losing to McCain by landslide numbers.

Then, Obama went hysterical because 2 minimum wage workers in the State Dept looked at his passport information. This led to the media now questioning what Obama has to hide (like his "spiritual advisor" Wright who has ties to Libya and other Muslim terrorist supporting countries). What is lurking in Obama's travel history that would cause him to go hysterical? The media's interest is sparked. Dig, dig, dig. Find out what he is terrified will be revealed.

And now, a poll released today shows that 1 in 5 Democrats will vote for McCain over Obama/Hillary. Franklin & Marshall College Poll shows that the Democrat Civil War is destroying their slim hopes for November. Good riddance!!

The imperial establishment needs to make the phoney election look legit, so they're getting the Dems to take the fall with a brokered, riotous convention. The Rethuglicans can then say, "See they can't even run a convention, let alone a country." All the backroom deals between opposite sides of the same rapacious, race war party have left the Dems with Congress and a few governorships, while the Republicans get the White House. Any citizen with half a functioning brain cell isn't fooled by all this white noise about candidates and elections.

The upside is that McCain will get more Ugly Amerikans killed in white power crusades that will drain the imperial coffers like a crack addict with a stolen ATM card. Combine that with infrastructure-rotting, corporate corruption and a McCain White House brings the Amerikan empire down far faster than an Obama/Clinton, kinder-gentler one.

And this simple calculus doesn't even include the inevitable, foreign policy blowback (see 9-11).

Yep. Send Amerika Down the Drain! Vote for McCain.

So let the tear gas fly; its just rock concert special effects designed to make the whole phoney spectacle look real. Police riots - staged or not - will cost the city of Denver millions in protestor lawsuits, which will tie up Colorado's courts for years, and make our necropolitan robber barons regret they ever invited the DNC donkeys to town.

Yeah, right. Hillary and Barack are closet Republicans helping to rig the election. They also suppressed proof of Bigfoot, UFOs, the Bermuda Triangle, and Santa Claus.

    COINTELPRO 1968?

Hey, welcome to COINTELPRO 2008: 40 years and still going strong.

I hope people here have red a few John Le Carre novels so that I don't have to sit down and explain what "cover" is or what an "agent provocateur" is - and yes, I'm totally against the Iraq war, and yes, I think the Dever cops should taze these little false-front Republican-hired provocateurs until they howl for mercy... though I know it's wrong to do things like that, in this case I am oh-so-tempted to make an exception.
