The Colorado House of Representatives on Tuesday passed House Bill 1164 by a vote of 43 to 21. The bill directs the Public Utilities Commission to consider the construction of large- scale solar plants to supply power to Coloradans in the future.
Though solar plants initially are more expensive to build than comparable natural gas- or coal-fired plants, solar plants cut down global warming emissions that might be taxed in the future. The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
"Just one large-scale plant could generate more than $2 billion in private investment and over 250 high-skilled, high-paying jobs," said bill sponsor Rep. July Solano, D-Thornton.
