Help wanted for Broncos' defense
Denver is wooing safety McCree, linebacker Bailey

They've wined and dined. Now, it's time to see if the Broncos can get some free agents signed.
Linebacker Boss Bailey and safety Marlon McCree hit town Wednesday and were ushered off to a nice meal and the Nuggets' game against the Phoenix Suns.
The bulk of the defenders' visits, though, will take place today when they meet with the coaching staff to discuss their potential roles. Their agents then presumably will take over from there.
Bailey, brother of Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey and late of the Detroit Lions, could fill the vacancy in the starting lineup left behind by Ian Gold's release. But Green Bay, Houston and Atlanta also are in pursuit.
McCree, who played 30 games the past two seasons for San Diego, likely will choose among Buffalo, Denver and Carolina sometime this week. The Broncos also are planning to bring in another safety, Carolina's Marquand Manuel, on Friday.
The Broncos also have expressed interest in Indianapolis guard Jake Scott and could bring him in for a visit.
YAHOO APOLOGIZES: In the end, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan got exactly what he wanted from Internet giant Yahoo.
Yahoo posted a public apology to Shanahan on its Web site Wednesday for naming Shanahan in a story about cheating in the NFL. A Sept. 13 story had said Shanahan had hired someone to videotape San Diego Chargers practices and that the NFL knew the videotaping had occurred and took no action.
The apology read:
"We apologize for any embarrassment that the Sept. 13, 2007 Yahoo! Sports story 'Ancient Antics' has caused for Mike Shanahan. Yahoo! has retracted the segment of the story that asserted that Mike Shanahan was involved in cheating as the Denver Broncos coach. Yahoo! has stringent editorial standards in place to prevent this type of error, and we regret the lapse in our protocol that allowed this to happen."
Shanahan's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said Yahoo had done enough and Shanahan would take no further action.
Staff writer Jeff Legwold contributed to this report.

oh please pick up Scott, that would be the kind of lineman difference maker the Broncos need, if we could get him and draft Ryan Clady or Cutlers old teammate from Vandy we would be in awesome shape up front.

I agree with landing Scott. I'd really be in favor of that move.
As well as Bailey and either of those two safeties. If our core group of safeties consisted of Webster and Niko battling for Mike, DJ doesn't battle anyone for Will, but would have Winborn backing him up, and Bailey and Winborn battling for Sam...I'd be happy. Winborn and Webster, if they didn't win the battle, would still be very capable backups with starting experience. It wouldn't be an all-star cast, but DJ surely could be a pro-bowler...if he'd get to play the same position for a few consecutive years, and the other two positions would be solid.

It's starting to look like Ryan Clady won't be there at the 12th pick. He would fit the system. If he's not available, Isee the Broncos trading down and accumulating talent. Hopefully Shanny the tranny can continue the streak of quality picks.

I'm convinced that after we sign Boss to make Champ happy, Shanahan will draft Chris Williams to make Cutler happy.

If Dorsey slides down below Ellis, as some mocks are saying now. I could definatly see trading up to get him. We won't be able to deal with the Cheifs or Raiders though. Which leads me to another thought. If the Raiders wanted Walker so bad you would think we could have gotten something for him via trade because then he would've still been under his old contract. Right? That would've saved them a bunch of $. Couldn't happen though because Shanahan is the biggest Raider hater of us all.

I'd be disappointed if Clady is gone, but if Clady is going higher, someone else has to fall lower. The advantage of having a higher pick is that there are only so many bodies that can be taken before Denver gets a chance. If Clady goes early, hopefully someone among the Dorsey, Ellis, Gholston, Rivers crowd is still on the board, then it's just up to Shanahan to not screw it up and to pick someone who will be an impact player for years to come.

There is no offseason is there?
Clady should be there at 12. He isn't the kind of left tackle other teams covet because he isn't 340 lbs. We need to get him for sure. Otherwise, we'll all be asking "What in the name of George Foster is going on here?"
The Raiders totally over-paid for Walker. (and several other FA's they bought)He will enjoy being the lead dog there, but it's only a matter of time before the knee keeps him out for long periods of time. That long a contract and that much guaranteed is ridiculous for him. Moss got that for the first 3 years for crying out loud. Believe me, the Broncos will miss him a bit, but not that much. Anyway, I won't worry about playing against him with Champ covering.
Anyone else out there think that former Buff Tyler Brayton would have made a nice addition to the orange and blue? I cringe when I see some of the defensive players get scooped up by other teams. (Briggs, Rogers, etc...)
Note to Marcus Thomas - Come on dude, what the heck are you thinking?

I really like Tyler Brayton myself..think he would be the kind of high motor type of DE the Broncos could use..but saw he just signed with Carolina. Jake Scott sounds like a wonderful pick up too from Indy. And..I think it would be cool if Boss Bailey joined Champ as a Bronco. As far as the draft pick goes...it would be awesome if Gholsten or Ellis slipped to the Broncos...Clady would be a great addittion too. But the the player I think would make the biggest impact is Rey Maualuga the fast..hard hitting linebacker from USC..this guy is the AL Wilson type of player we missed so much last year.

I THINK PICKIN UP BOSS WOULD HELP OUT A LOT, AN GETTIN MARLON McCREE WOULD BE A GOOD FIT AS WELL, IF DENVER CAN GET THOES TWO, I THINK DENVER WILL BE ONE OF THOSE TEAMS THAT FLY UNDER THE RADAR, AN IN THE MOCK DRAFE THERE HAVIN DENVER PICK UP A WR DeSEAN JACKSON OUT OF CAL. HE'S 6'0 170 AN RUNS THE 40 IN 4.35 2ND FASTEST OUT OF THE WR, I THINK HE WOULD HELP OUT A LOT, AS FAST AS HE IS, AN AS STRONG AS CUTLER'S ARM IS COULD BE A HOMERUN, I DON'T SEE DENVER TRADIN UP TO GET ANYONE, DENVER DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR A TOP 10 PICK, THE 12TH PICK IS SAFE, CUTLER WAS THE 12TH PICK,

I would hope that the broncos management uses there head and doesn't overpay for any free agents that there interested in. I really don't see how many of these guys can fix our problems if they were that good there teams wouldn't have let them go and that needs to be taken into consideration. Non are pro-bowlers. This off season so far most if not all free agents have recieved huge signing bonus's and contracts and it looks like the trend will continue which will once again hurt season ticket holders by raising prices again.

I saw the NFL Network report about Boss.
, and yes he is now a Bronco. Now that Boss is a Bronco we will do a lot better. My husband is a big college football fan and pulls for the Auburn Tigers and he said that when Champ and Bass were playing at Georgia they gave the SEC hell so maybe it will happen in the pros as well.

I've been a Broncos fan for over 20 years and I can't remember us ever having even a remotely dangerous return man. I CAN , however recall multiple times when the Broncos have been beaten and heart broken because the Chiefs and Bears know first hand how valuable a good return man can be. Has anyone considered trying to pick up Desean Jackson in the draft. He could be our Dante Hall or Devin Hester....Just a thought from a die hard Bronco fan in Nashville.
