Quark Inc. unveiled software designed to allow publishers to deliver their content via print, on the Web, or over mobile and hand-held electronic devices.
The software expands on the Denver company's desktop publishing software that was more focused on creating printed content and page design.
Quark CEO Ray Schiavone said in an interview that he had spoken with publishers about their needs before developing the software package.
He said publishers told him: "Our business is under a lot of pressure. We're being asked to create more products with the content we have.
"They need to take that same content and get it out to different channels."
Schiavone said the new software costs "hundreds of thousands" of dollars vs. less than $1,000 for the company's older desktop publishing product.
He also said that Quark developed the new software both in-house and using outside partners, and licensed some of the technology "to get to market more quickly."
