The leader of a statewide Hispanic Republican group won't back Sen. Dave Schultheis' bid for a GOP post, telling the Colorado Springs lawmaker: "You've gone out of your way to be an enemy of our community."
Gil Cisneros, chairman of the Colorado chapter of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, will oppose Schultheis' effort to be elected in May as national committeeman.
"I will not support you and I asked my membership not to support you," Cisneros said Monday in an e-mail to the lawmaker. "I consider you to be as mean-spirited as Tom Tancredo, or possibly even worse, if that is possible."
Both Schultheis and Tancredo, a Littleton congressman, have made illegal immigration the cornerstone issue of their careers.
Cisneros said some Hispanics let him know they were unhappy with his missive, but he is standing his ground.
Schultheis said he has the support of many Hispanics.
At their state convention in May, Republicans will elect a national committeeman to serve on the Republican National Committee. The post currently is held by former congressman Bob Schaffer, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
The RNC is made up of the state chairman, committeeman and committeewoman from each state.

This might just be the message that many voters need to vote FOR
Dave Schultheis. If he opposes illegal immigration he has a winning platform and should thank Gil Cisneros. Being endorsed by Cisneros is right up there with being endorsed by Hugo Chavez.
