Numbers Game

4 hits for the Rockies' designated hitters in 25 at-bats in the first five interleague games at American League parks. Jeff Baker was 1-for-9, Ryan Spilborghs 1-for-12 and Scott Podsednik 2-for-4.

SIDELINED

Umpire Brian O'Nora, who left in the second inning Tuesday after being hit in the head by a broken piece of Miguel Olivo's bat, did not work the game.

O'Nora was treated for a gash in his forehead that did not require stitches.

He suffered a minor concussion, so he was held overnight in a hospital for observation but was released Wednesday. Minor league umpire Mike Muchlinski replaced O'Nora.

JUGGLING

Shortstop Omar Quintanilla made his first start Wednesday in the six games since Troy Tulowitzki, right, came off the disabled list.

Tulowitzki was 3-for-20 since his return Friday. Quintanilla got a hit in his final six games before Tulowitzki's return.

"We need to find a way to slow Troy down and get Omar in," manager Clint Hurdle said. "At times, we get in a hurry, and when we are in a hurry, we don't do as well."

Ryan Spilborghs was the designated hitter after playing center field Tuesday. It gave him an opportunity to have back-to-back starts. Jeff Baker had been the designated hitter the first two games in Kansas City but wasn't in the lineup.

ETC.

Left-hander Micah Bowie was activated from the disabled list and cleared waivers, allowing the Rockies to assign him to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Infielder Doug Bernier, sent out Friday when shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was activated, also cleared waivers, was removed from the 40-man roster and was sent outright to the Sky Sox. . . . A Royals source confirmed right-hander Ramon Ramirez threw at Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba intentionally Tuesday night. "He said it was a personal issue that he needed to take care of," the source said. . . . The Royals sent Japanese right-hander Yasuhiko Yabuta to Triple-A Omaha to make room for right-hander Robinson Tejeda, a waiver claim from Texas on Tuesday and who joined the team Wednesday. Yabuta, who had eight unintentional walks in 60 appearances in Japan last year, had 17 walks in 31 1/3 innings in 26 appearances with the Royals this season.
