Denver police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a peace officer after he pulled over a uniformed sheriff's deputy.
The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Monday on southbound Chambers Road near East Andrews Drive in Montbello.
Police said the suspect was driving a white Chevrolet Impala that had flashing red and blue lights in the car grille and rear window.
When he saw the deputy's uniform the man fled. Police caught him a short time later. They identified him as Darrick Ray Huhman, 25, of Denver.
He was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun in a holster at the time of his arrest, police said. Bail was set at $2,000.

Bail was set at $2,000!!
Are you kidding me?
That is crazy, DUI and DV offenders have more of a bail then that.
This is an out-rage! Impersonating a police officer should be considered a very serious crime and should come with no bail.

Let's hope we don't hear about him again later. How embarrassing for Denver if he flees, kills someone and we have to repeat this story and admit we were stupid to not hold him.

I was stunned after reading he only had $2,000 bail. I wouldn't be surprised if Denver didn't look into if this guy is one of the guys who have been impersonating police officers in the area. It's hard to believe that this is his first time doing this.
Scary to think he is back out on the streets. Knowing Denver they probably gave him his car and equipment back.

Don't know how bail works but he'll probably only have to put up only 10 percent with a bondsman.
I would have liked to see the look on his face when he saw the real officer's uniform.

The deputy was probably speeding and Darrick Huhman could be just another self-appointed road nanny, albeit one who has taken it to a level beyond merely obstructing the passing lane.
The low bail was clearly set by a judge who recognized a fellow traveler. Their mission in life is to improve the driving habits of us lead-footed plebes.
Nice touch pulling over that deputy. I've wanted to issue the cops a few citations myself.

I like Otto had a 'trumped up' drug charge (I dont think he claimed innocence either), with a 10k bail.
This guy if not already surely had plans to do serious harm with this impersonation.
I hurt myself, I get 10k, this guys could have REALLY hurt others he gets 2k
THAT IS THE PROBLEM

It's hard to believe that bail was set at only 2,000 dollars it must be a typo, especially givin the fact impersonating a police officer is a class 6 felony. Not to mention all the past reports of police impersonators in the metro area in recent months.

I had a phony cop come up to me while parked in a parking spot at my apartment complex. He had the uniform, gun, car with light bar and everything. He even had a radar detector mounted on his dash. He put his hand on his gun and yelled at me to leave. As it turned out he was not a cop and did not live at the complex. He was driving by with his girl friend in the car and thought for some insane reason I was calling her!!! I did not know either one of them. What a nut!! When I call the police from my phone he jumped into his car and drove away, leaving his girl friend there. This guy is still out there and the police did nothing to find him. These people should be held without any bail and punished to the full extent of the law. Anyone like that is just a few steps away from raping or killing someone someday.
