OTTAWA -- Two University of Denver recruits were taken in the NHL draft Saturday, bringing to three the number taken in the two-day draft.

Matt Donovan, a defenseman from Edmonton, Okla., was taken in the fourth round Saturday by the New York Islanders.

David Carle, a defenseman from Anchorage, was taken in the seventh round by Anaheim. He is the brother of Matt Carle of the San Jose Sharks, who won the Hobey Baker Award while playing for the Pioneers.

The first DU recruit drafted was Joe Colborne, who went in the first round Friday. The No. 16 pick overall, Colborne, a Calgary, Alberta, native plays for Camrose of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

You've got to be kidding me Rocky Mountain News. You bother to publish this article without mentioning the fact that David Carle was drafted by Tampa Bay sespite the fact that he withdrew from the draft due to a career ending heart condition? What an unbelievably classy move by Tampa Bay, and what a freaking boneheaded move by the yahoo who wrote this.

Matt Donovan is from Edmonton, OK?? Again, great job to the rookie who wrote this article. Try Edmond, OK. Mistakes happen, but the fact this article even showed up without proper mention of the Carle situation, and the truly heartwarming action of both DU and Tampa Bay in honoring him is a joke.
