Rockies report: Sullivan is back

80.2 percent success ratio for the Rockies in stolen bases (93-for-116) this season, which would be a franchise record. The Rockies' best season success rate was 76.3 percent last year.

Outfielder Cory Sullivan, taken off the 40-man roster earlier this season when he cleared waivers, rejoined the Rockies. He took the spot of outfielder Scott Podsednik, expected to be on the disabled list for several weeks with a nondisplaced fracture of his left pinkie, suffered last weekend in Cincinnati.
Podsednik had raised his average to .263 since the All-Star break, going 10-for-18 with five doubles.
Sullivan was called up briefly earlier in the season but made only one start in nine games and was 2-for-12.
He was put on waivers at the request of his agent to see if any other team would claim him, but his $1 million salary proved a deterrent.
"We wanted to see what was out there, and it also gave the Rockies a chance to get out from under the salary," Sullivan said.

Rockies manager Clint Hurdle did not rule out the possibility of left-hander Valerio De Los Santos starting again Friday at Florida. De Los Santos made his first major league appearance in more than three years and first start since April 2000 on Monday.
He left after walking the first two batters of the fifth with a 3-0 lead. He walked six overall.
Hurdle said he thought De Los Santos "felt a little uncomfortable" in light of his long absence from the majors.
ETC.
Jason Hirsh did not help his case for a promotion from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday, giving up eight runs, 11 hits, including three home runs, and three walks in seven innings. "We like Jason Hirsh, but he needs to back up one good start with another, and that has not happened," manager Clint Hurdle said. "The tough times will help him in the long run." . . . Left-handed pitcher Mark Redman wasn't walking away from $350,000-plus remaining on his contract, so he reported to Colorado Springs after clearing waivers. He has allowed one run and five hits in 3 1/3 innings of two relief appearances since rejoining the Sky Sox. . . . Right-hander Andrew Johnston, who had 24 saves with Single-A Modesto, was promoted to Double-A Tulsa, filling the roster opening created by right-hander Casey Weathers pitching for Team USA in the Olympics. . . . With left-hander Valerio De Los Santos' Rockies debut on Monday, the team has used 23 pitchers, including 10 as starters, this season, two pitchers and three starters short of its total for last season. . . . Right-hander Alberto Arias, who was up briefly with the Rockies this year and last year, was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Cory Sullivan. The Rockies have placed Arias on waivers, and if he clears Thursday, he will be sent outright to Colorado Springs' roster. Arias has been pitching for the Sky Sox. . . . First baseman Adam LaRoche of the Pirates was placed on the disabled list with a strained rib cage muscle.

What a stud! Get's three hits with broken bond(?) in his hand. Give Sullivan some playing time and get seven runs again as I miss my 4 tacos for a buck time!

A stud, ha. He just didn't want anybody to know he is "disabled" once again. Why didn't he tell somebody, lack of communication maybe? Good to see Sully up, finally. But, the one I really want to see is Dexter Fowler. I'm sure he needs to develope some more, but it would be nice to see what he can do and maybe see him starting the 2009 season. Willy and Pods are too injury prone and getting older. Need to get the young one up here.

Oh yeah, what is a broken "bond" in his hand? Do you mean broken "bone" in his hand? Spell check, please. Some of us are stupid, we need the correct words.

I'm pretty sure Dexter Fowler is with Team USA in China right now. He'll be with the big club before too long, from what I hear. Good for Sully, though. I've always thought, aside from the base stealing thing, he's every bit as good as Willie T. Sully's D is way underated, & he's good for a .300 average. I also think he's from Pittsburgh. If so, I'm sure we'll see him starting one of the next two games.

Thank you Tracy for correcting your story. Hope Dexter is enjoying his trip to China. But, I hope to see him at the end of the season when the rosters are expanded. Look to see Willy and Pods gone before next year. Also, looking forward to getting Spilly back in CF. But, from what I read it's a ways off for him. Miss you Spilly.

Good for Sully. Happy to see him back on board. Willy is OK, but in the hitting dept he seems to only be able to bunt and hit pop ups. Need new blood out there. Go Rockies
