A right shoulder impingement suffered by Greg Reynolds at Triple-A Colorado Springs has forced the Rockies to shift their plans for a starting pitcher Monday at Pittsburgh.
CINCINNATI Scratch Greg Reynolds from the possible starters for the Rockies on Monday in Pittsburgh.
Reynolds was placed on the disabled list Friday at Triple-A Colorado Springs because of a right shoulder impingement. The move was backdated to Wednesday, which was one day after his most recent start. In that game, he allowed two hits and one run in five innings against the New Orleans Zephyrs without getting a decision as the Sky Sox won 7-6 in 12 innings.
Reynolds is 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA in nine starts for the Sky Sox. He began the season with them and allowed seven runs in the first inning of their opening game; without that misstep, his ERA would be 2.70.
Reynolds, 23, the second overall pick in the 2006 draft, made 11 starts for the Rockies from May 11 through July 4 and went 2-6 with a 6.71 ERA in those games.
Jason Hirsh is lined up to start Monday on normal rest, should the Rockies decide he’s ready to make his 2008 debut in the majors. He was sidelined at the start of the season because of a strained rotator cuff and has gone 2-3 with a 5.24 in 11 games, including 10 starts, for the Sky Sox.
Glendon Rusch originally wasscheduled to start Monday at Pittsburgh for the Rockies, but his start has been pushed back to Tuesday. That was the day Kip Wells’ turn would have come up, but the Rockies have dropped him from their rotation after he retired one batter and allowed seven hits and eight runs against Los Angeles on Monday. That was Wells’ first appearance with the Rockies since April 28. He underwent surgery to remove blood clots from his right hand.
Reynolds will miss his scheduled start Sunday for the Sky Sox. To fill in for Reynolds, the Rockies acquired right-hander Josh Hall, 27, out of the independent Atlantic League. Assuming Hall passes his physical when he arrives in Colorado Springs later today, he will start Sunday for the Sky Sox.
Hall began his career in the Cincinnati organization in 1998 and was signed by the Washington organization after the 2006 season. In 2007, he pitched primarily for the Nationals' Double-A Harrisburg affiliate and briefly for their Triple-A Columbus farm club.
Hall went 1-4 with an 8.40 ERA in seven games, six starts, for Harrisburg this year and was released May 12. He then went 6-3 with a 4.10 ERA in 13 starts for the Lancaster Barnstormers in the independent Atlantic League before leaving to join the Rockies organization.
