PARKER: Web site thriving with dead air

"Everybody dies, but dead rockers live on!"

That's the motto of I Hear Dead People, the new Denver Internet radio Web site that features a Ouija board on the home page. Or as the site says, "If you're listening to a song, it means someone in the band has crossed over to the other side." It's up live (ha!) now at IHearDeadPeople.com

Given that the Grim Reaper doesn't care if you're a punk band or light rock fan, the mix is diverse and the list of bands is long. There are the obvious ones like The Who, The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and the Rolling Stones, but there's more: Metallica, INXS, Joy Division, Badfinger, Frank Sinatra, Sublime, Elvis Presley, Robert Palmer, Styx, Toto, Alice in Chains, Blind Melon, Chicago and, of course the Grateful Dead.

Then there are the picks from far left field: Gene Autry, the Carpenters and the Blues Brothers. It's actually harder coming up with a list of bands that can't be played there. So far everyone in U2, the Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Jam, Rush and Pearl Jam are still alive and rockin' - but that could change at any time.

CBS Radio honcho Don Howe unveiled the Web site at a meeting with advertisers recently. As for any artists looking to get added, he deadpanned, "You know what you have to do."

PARTY PARTNERS: The Creative Coalition and M, Inc, headed by Denver restaurateur Jesse Morreale, have formed a partnership during the Democratic National Convention.

The New York-based non-partisan coalition is bringing in 25 Hollywood-ites, including co-chairs Tim Daly, Kerry Washington, Tom Fontana and Sue Kramer, to study and discuss issues surrounding the presidential election. Events will be held day and night at M, Inc venues including Tambien in Cherry Creek North, Mezcal and Rockbar on East Colfax, La Rumba nightclub on Ninth and Acoma.

"We've been working on this for five months," Morreale said. The CC's DNC parties end Aug. 27 with a bang at the invite-only Black Eyed Peas concert at the Fillmore Auditorium.

DEGETTE'S GET: Congresswoman Diana DeGette has booked the rooftop of the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glen arm Place, to entertain DNC guests. "The congresswoman is looking forward to showing her colleagues in Congress some good old Rocky Mountain West hospitality," said DeGette spokesman Kristofer Eisenla.

THE BIG O: Sen. Barack Obama has no set schedule of events outside of the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field, according to his spokeswoman Jenny Backus. "Barack Obama's schedule and any entertainers (that might come here) have not been announced," Backus said.

Some bloggers have been saying that the Illinois senator would be introducing rapper Kanye West on stage during the MTV party, but my sources say that's not happening.

THE BIGGER O: Oprah Winfrey's peeps can't confirm that the talk-show queen will be here during the DNC, but The Big O did ask for a room at the Brown Palace during the donkey do. "She did make a request, but we did not have availability," said Brown spokeswoman Shannon Dexheimer.

THE SEEN: Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean lunching with Elbra Wedgeworth, president of the Convention Host Committee, Thursday at Palettes inside the Denver Art Museum.

EAVESDROPPING at Sen. John McCain's Denver appearance Friday. The press corps joked that given the speculation about McCain's running mate, perhaps he was going to announce the Dalai Lama as his veep during their meeting later in Aspen.

Said one out-of-town television reporter: "Obama can't do it because then it would be Obama-Lama."
