COFFEE LOVERS UNITE!
We at Extra! aren't too proud to admit our dependence on caffeine, so the news that Starbucks is closing hundreds of stores, including the one downstairs, hit us particu- larly hard. Now there's a place where we, and our fellow caffeinaholics, can vent, with the faint hope that Starbucks might reconsider.
Go to saveourstarbucks.com to post why you think your neighborhood store should be taken off the close list. Or to say why your locally owned coffee shop is just fine, thank you.
STARVING ARTISTS GOTTA LIVE SOMEWHERE
The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs has launched a new Web site meant to help artists and performers find studio and living space.
The free Web portal will enable real estate professionals, property managers and others to list spaces at regonline.com/spaceagent, a temporary data collection site. Deadline for listing properties is Aug. 18. The full Web site - which is part of the agency's mission to advance arts and culture in the city - will launch in November.
CHOW DOWN FOR CHARITY
Steve's Snappin' Dogs, an Aurora magnet for hot dog aficionados, is hosting a charity eat-off at 1 p.m. Sunday. Eight finalists form the "Elite Ate" and will have eight minutes to down as many hot dogs as they can. The event is aimed at raising awareness and funds for Project Angel Heart and the Colorado AIDS Fund.
The contestants' entry fees and a portion of all hot dogs sold during the event will benefit the charities.
