Howard Dean, third from left, tours the stadium with former Denver mayor Federico Pena, fifth from left, and other officials of the Democratic National Convention Committee .

People who get tickets to see Barack Obama at Invesco Field will be required to show they can get there and plan to attend the event themselves, officials said Thursday.

Jenny Backus, Obama's senior adviser to the convention, said with thousands of people wanting to go, the Obama campaign wants to make sure all tickets get used by the people who requested them.

"When we distribute the tickets, one of the only prerequisites for tickets is — since they're free — is that you have to tell us how you're going to get there," she said. "You need to give us a plan on how you're going to get there and you'll have to check back in with us a couple of times along the way."

If people can't show they will be at Invesco to hear Obama accept the Democratic presidential nomination, their tickets will be cycled back into the pool and redistributed to someone else.

Backus said "when they are coming through the state party offices, we want to make sure people are going to use the tickets, and we have different ways we can check that." But she said it won't be specific — like asking people to provide airline tickets.

She also said the stadium will be mostly filled with locals.

"Rest assured, a great majority of the people in that stadium will be from Colorado and Denver and the surrounding region — bordering states in the mountain region," she said.

Good thing, too.

Pat Waak, Colorado Democratic Party chair, said recently she's gotten more than 9,000 requests for tickets. Natalie Wyeth, spokeswoman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, said they've gotten close to 14,000.

DNCC officials said the ticket distribution system will be announced next week — likely Monday or Tuesday.

With the anticipation of heavy demand, Backus said they won't be relying on a professional ticket distribution system like Ticketmaster. Instead, she said the Obama campaign and state parties will be primary ticket distributors.

Backus also said they are addressing ticket resale issues — meaning what happens if tickets end up on ebay or Craigslist for big bucks.

"I think these are going to be such a hot commodity and that there are so many people who want them that I don't see that being a problem," Backus said. "Obviously, we'll have some tracking methods that will come out next week, and we're going to rely on the goodwill of people to do the right thing."

Logistics for the fourth night of the convention have been the subject of a lot of conversation and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean got his first look inside Invesco Field on Thursday morning.

Dean said he's reviewed drawings for the staging of the event and was "stunned" by them. However, he also said the Obama campaign has not signed off on them yet.

"If the campaign accepts the drawings, they're extraordinary," Dean said.

Backus said "we're being slow and steady" in planning the convention and they're "getting close" to the final layout of the staging.

Dean was in Denver for the second straight day. On Wednesday, he checked out progress of the transformation of the Pepsi Center from a sports and entertainment arena to the Democratic Party's center of activity.

The DNC chair said he expects Invesco Field could hold more than 80,000 people for Obama's speech — hinting that about 5,000 seats would be available on the field as well.

Because of the large crowd expected, Backus said activities are being planned for people as they file into Invesco Field. "It's going to take us awhile to fill a stadium," she said.

As for signs being allowed at the event, she said it will be "a clean look."

Dean also clarified that the DNCC is legally in charge of ticket distribution.

"Obviously we're going to take a great deal of input from the Obama campaign," Dean said. "This is their convention in terms of nomination — as the secretary (Federico Peña) said it's America's convention — but legally it's the DNCC."

The Democratic National Convention, which runs from Aug. 25-28, is just over a month away and Dean acknowledged it was a short turnaround time when the Obama campaign announced it was moving the nomination speech from the Pepsi Center to Invesco Field.

"This is pretty short notice to do something like this," Dean said. "But we think it's great."

Now for the news out of Germany that is truly not shocking if you are an Obama supporter.
Obama cancelled a planned short visit to Rammstein and Landstuhl US Military basses in Germany. The visits were planed for Friday. "Barack Obama will not be coming to us," a spokesperson for US Military hospital announced "I don't know why." You can google Obama's response for me it does not hold any water. Correct me if I am wrong but was he not yesterday telling you what a good job troops were doing when he was in Iraq and Afganistan? And the shell game continues.

The media did the same thing in Portland where the super hot hometown band heralded by Rolling Stone, The Decemberists, played a 45 minute free show before Obama spoke. Indy rock websites were all pushing the news and hyping it big time.

So who did all the people really come to see, real rockstars or Obama, and why is the media leaving out this pertinent information ?

Because they are in the tank for The Boy King of course.

They were excited when he praised Germany, called for no more nukes, and more green energy. When he mentioned things like the fact that Europe needed to send troops to Afghanistan and help financially with the problems of the world (just as George Bush did) there was just a smattering of applause.

By contrast, the crowd went wild for the concert beforehand.

Obama can say "I am not here as a presidential candidate for the United States but as a citizen of the U.S. and a citizen of the world" all he wants, but make no mistake about it, this was a campaign speech on foreign soil just as his press conference in Jordan was.

Similar to what happened in Oregon a couple of months ago when 70,000 reportedly went to see him, but were actually drawn there by a free concert.

So I'd bet that if the Dems don't put on a free concert with free food and drink to attract 80,000 people, BHO will be speaking to an empty stadium.

"Hitler ordered factories to close and his countrymen to attend."

Funny thing you mentioned Hitler. The "Victory Column", where BHO gave his speech was Hitler's favorite monument.

What a smattering of OFF TOPIC COMMENTS! The point of this articale is that the DNC are control freaks. Look at what they said. Before you get your tickets you haver to tell them how you plan to get to the event. What kind of B.S. is this. The tickets are free. This implies first come first serve as to who gets these. What are they going to do to, or for those who at the last minute cannot get there? Are they going to insist that you after having the tickets make an effort to get the tickets to someone else? Are they going to come to your front door and demand the tickets back?

What this is is an attempt at a sham P.R. stunt. They want all the seats filled no matter what. If you watched alot of Obamas stump spoeaches. His crouds were dwindeling. Lots of empty seats. They moved audiance members in closer to give the illusion of a jammed packed event.

This event will be no different from any of Obamas other smoke and mirror events. Looks good but no substance.

you think that we should shift the blame from the conservative politicians that got us into iraq and continue to support policies that keep our soldiers in harm's way without the resources necessary for victory and a plain ride home....to the folks at CNN, Pelosi, Kennedy, Murtha, Kerry and Reid...because they "embolden the enemy".

    do i have that right?

Are you sure you know what socialism means? I think you need to go look it up in the dictionary. For some reason Karl Marx comes to mind. It's "We the people, in order to form a more perfect union" not "we the people,to have our property, economic status and how we raise our children controlled by the government".

How can a diologue or discussion work when you start the questioning using McSame, etc as your talking points?
Could it be that each party has similar platforms from which the people in that party campaign from? Are you saying that 2 different people within a party would not differ in management, therefore outcomes of similar platform ideas? If so, why are we going through the primary process for each party?

Lets use Healthcare as an example. What kind of healthcare system would you like to see happen....using your own words to define your vision of HC.

Mine would be to eliminate the Employer based system and go to an individual member type model. Using this model, we can eliminate a lot of the pitfalls of the employer based system while providing quality care through increased competition using individuals rather than employer groups. Operational costs are greatly reduced using this model. I do want to maintain the usage of our pre-tax dollars for our premiums.
Using a National based system would greatly affect our GDP in a negative factor that during this financial climate would make a Recession a Good thing!

because john mccain's platform is nearly identical to bush's...thus he is the same.

So jay you are saying that 2 people will manage the platform and policies and have the same outcomes? This does not happen in business nor in Govt.

I was not a Kerry fan but objected to the stereotypes that were associated to him. It is a form of smack talk that does not fly for me here on line. If you want to talk smack then do it on the field, court or course. The outcomes and consequences are much different on the court than they ever can be here online. It smacks of partisan BS, which I guess for some is entertainment or anger management. It does not lead to civil discussion.

    To all:

I have been engaged in these blogs for a few months now, and have been facinated by the exchanges. I'm a statistical kind of guy, and this was interesting ...

Do you realize that on the "political" topics, almost 80% of all the posts are people calling each other names? The other 20% is actual posting of information, opinions, links, etc.

The percentage is a little better on the religious posts -- only 60% namecalling and 40% informational exchange.

The best are the non-political, non-religious issues (coal mining, global warming, etc.) Those tend to be about 60-40 biased on the informational/opinion side.

These are averages taken since mid-May.

I don't recall a single incidence of anyone changing their minds on anything. If that's your purpose, most of what you post is wasted. If your purpose was simply to annoy the opposition, you mostly succeed. Congratulations.

I'm no better than anyone else -- I haven't changed my mind on much, either. The possible exceptions are: since my exchanges with greenleaf, I am more prone to accept global warming. Oh, and - due to the ferocity of the pro-Mr. O crowd - I have been nudged a little toward McCain, but I'm still not convinced.

Opinions do matter, but truthfully, the more respectful ones get the most attention from folks like me who are actually reading these exchanges for information.

    Froward69,
    Here's the problem. I don't believe you.

If you had republican friends who wanted tickets to see the Obamessiah, they wouldn't need you to land some for them. Republicans, being generally a self reliant lot, are quite capable of getting them for themselves.

Furthermore, if what you claim that the Dems want to prevent the GOP from grabbing up all the tickets to make the attendance look sparse was true, then your getting tickets for them instead would likely, in the minds the ticket controllers, be seen as a way of circumventing their security measures. So unless you either lie to them, or you're lying to us about why these tickets are being tightly controlled, that just isn't going to happen.

I think a lot of it on here is stress relief, entertainment, and anger management. Much easier to yell and call others names from a keyboard rather than engaging a person or group on a personal level. Even have offered to buy those that have the biggest disagreements a cup of coffee or a beer so that a more productive dialogue occurs.

    Thanks again

Big_D enjoy the weekend. While we have tried to fix the current system, we do so in the wrong areas. Taking the employer out of the equation does many good things. Lowers overhead. Many of HR duties reduced by each employer. Other operating savings include the large Brokers that do nothing but put employers and HC companies together. Big profits there. Eliminates a large portion of the Pre-Existing conditions issues with losing, changing jobs or the fact that employer changes carriers.

By taking all healthcare and putting it under 1 agency, group, etc......you are putting about 15% of GDP at risk. This is direct association, not the secondary and tertiary businesses that will take a direct hit. This is much bigger than just the initial hit on HC. If people can show me how this risk can be averted. I am up for listening, by all means. We could go into longer range negative affects of Govt run HC for days.........and maybe we will.

France and Canada satisfaction rates are not so high. In fact France(of which is often used example on this forum for positive) has had to have approx. 80% supplemental coverage as National plan is lacking for most.

Enjoyed our conversation and would be great to chat and have a dialogue.
