An additional count of felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury was added Wednesday against a Johnstown teen accused of beating a 7-year-old girl to death while acting out the video game Mortal Kombat.

Lamar Roberts appeared calm and collected in court as he watched Johnstown police detective Kathy Halldorson testify that Roberts was too intoxicated to stop punching and kicking Zoe Garcia, even when she asked him to.

It sounds more like an alcohol problem rather than video games. Mortal Kombat has been around for 15 years or so. And yeah, video games can be violent today, but think of the millions of people who have played Grand Theft Auto games and haven't tried to emulate the characters by shooting up the public or running them down in vehicles. There are a few bad apples in society who happen to play these games. But what a unfortunate incident though. Luckily this guy is going to be in prison for many, many years and I doubt his new mates in prison will take kindly to a Mortal Combat wannabe who killed a little girl. He's going to face some harsh realities.
