Eaks braces for long walk at The Broadmoor

R.W. Eaks managed to run away with a win last week at the 3M Championship, but he did so by riding a cart, not walking.

Carts aren't allowed at the U.S. Senior Open. But Eaks is hopeful a pair of new FDA-approved braces that provide electrical stimulation to his legs while he sleeps will help get him through the week and the year.

He said he is supposed to receive the braces next Thursday, the first day of the tournament, and remains optimistic they will alleviate the pain - and indefinitely postpone knee replacement surgeries.

"I don't have time to take a year off. I'm getting too old to do that," he said.

He has been working extensively with a physiotherapist to get his legs stronger.

"Even hurt, I love this game, and I don't want to quit," he said en route to a 23-under-par 193 total at the TPC Twin Cities. It shattered the tournament record and was the third-lowest score in relation to par recorded on the Champions Tour.
