A Fort Collins man driving a Saab is in custody after he allegedly plowed into two bicyclists early this morning, killing one of them.

Alcohol is suspected in the 5:15 a.m. crash at West Drake Road near Moore Lane in Fort Collins, police say.

Daniel Price, 20, was driving a black 2004 Saab westbound on West Drake Road, while Rebecca Allen, 32, and Jennifer Garvey, 36, were in a bike lane going the same way.

The Saab struck both bicycles from behind, say Fort Collins police.

Allen was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Garvey was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies where she was treated for her injuries.

Both women were wearing bicycle helmets.

Price was arrested at the scene for investigation of DUI and taken to Poudre Valley Hospital for blood tests to determine his alcohol level.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.

DUI resulting in death needs to become a capital crime; all the info, ad campaigns, hoopla, and enforcement at checkpoints removes any denial of culpability. DECADES of stats, research, and activity makes this impossible to trifle with.

DUI in general needs to become a crime equal to manslaughter, rape, and kidnapping. NOTHING ELSE will get through to these idiots who think they can drink and still drive!
