Residents of about 10 homes in Lakewood had to evacuate Monday afternoon after a grass fire burned the decks of two houses and scorched three to five acres of open space.
"We consider it a suspicious fire until proven otherwise," said Cindy Matthews, spokeswoman for West Metro Fire Rescue.
The fire was reported at 5:45 p.m. near South Fig Way and West Alaska Drive, where homes back up onto an open- space area. Everyone was able to return to their houses Monday evening, officials said.
