VACCINATIONS: WHAT TO EXPECT
Heidi Murkoff, the mom who wrote the book that's helped more than 27 million families know What to Expect When You're Expecting, has launched a nationwide immunization-awareness campaign to help parents know what to expect from childhood vaccines. The complimentary "What to Expect Guide to Immunizations" booklet is available at many pediatricians' offices as well as online at whattoexpect.org. It answers parents' questions and concerns about vaccines, such as:
* Why are immunizations important?
* Do vaccines really work?
* Who decides which shots are recommended and when they should be given?
* Why do I need to make sure my child gets his shots at the recommended times?

SMOKING DAMAGE APPEARS REVERSIBLE
Women who quit smoking have a 21 percent lower risk of death from coronary heart disease within five years of smoking their last cigarette, according to new research. The study, published in May in The Journal of the American Medical Association, suggests that the damage of smoking may decline to the level of nonsmokers, the study authors say.
