No Invesco for Obama

Published July 17, 2008 at 12:05 a.m.

Text size

How many other people in the Regional Transportation District who voted for the construction of Invesco Field several years ago feel the same way as I do? I voted yes on this issue so Colorado would have a first-class football stadium. As a Republican, I do not want to see this stadium used as a facility to help or further the cause of a political party that I oppose ("Invesco move is costly," July 8).

I believe that others who feel the same as I do on this subject should let our feelings be known, loud and clear.

Dennis, do you really think that any of the Libdems in Denver give a rat's patootie what you want to pay for. This is their Messiah, the modern day parting of the Red Sea, the defeat of Pharoh and the advent of cold fusion all rolled into one Dumbo-eared empty suit, that can't string a sentence together without a teleprompter.

I'm actually starting to lean toward voting for him, just to get this liberal collapse out of the way. Jimmy Carter will look good after Obama.

News Flash, Dennis: Invesco Field is a public facility, constructed with public funds for public use. So long as the Democratic party is paying for the facility, then what's the big deal?

@ Clyde: Lots of ad hominem, but (un)surprisingly short on actual facts.

I just want to know who is footing the bill in reality. Is the money going to come equally from the Colorado rtax payers , both republican and democrat. Or will it come as it should from those who want to rent it. The democrat party.

Invesco holds concerts, among other events and those who want to go. A portion of their ticket pays the rent on the facility. So as a big bad capitalist. I am in favor of renting it out. A money maker. I just hope that the Colorado tax payer is not having to foot the bill for someone else is all.

Dennis's letter is proof that the rest of us taxpayers helped fund a huge stadium for the benefit of a group of millionares known as the Broncos. As a Libertarian, I say phooey and let whomever can pay the rent use the facility. If Dennis is truly a Republican, he should favor less government and lower taxes, thus he should stop depending on the politicians to solve his "problem" and be happy that another use of Invesco Field (aka Taxpayers Stadium) will hep reduce the taxes he might have to pay for maintenence for the Temple of Football.

Dennis Reuss you offend me. What gives you the isea that mile high/invesco can't be rented to anuone with the cash? I might not care for the black guy with the funny name but as long as he pays the bill I'm all for the revenue. It's good for Denver & Colorado. Woops! There's the rub. With the dnc already millions of dollars underfunded how are they gonna pay the extra $3M for this "parting of the Red Sea" (thanks clyde, I liked your analogy) dog and pony show? Who's got the answer to that???

It's not about the money. It's about hypocrisy. The Democrat Party espouses conservation. And, yet, this spectacle they are planning is extravagent and wasteful. It reminds me of the story about soldiers who were made to dig ditches and then fill them back up. It's a great example of the real Democrat Party, not the one portrayed in the news media.

Did you receive a contract for work to be done for the DNC? I did. You should see what needs to be tracked in order to make this a green event.

I think that the democratic party, should not be allowed to use Invesco for their convention. First of all if they want to host a party here in Denver than they should pay to have their party, because any other group has to pay to have their party. Also that same weekend is the Mile High Showdown, now did anyone think about that before they said, "Let's go use Invesco"? The answer is probably no. I think that using Invesco during the convenction is a terrible and stupid idea. I also think that it is another way to stick it to us that are not for the democratic party, or even liberals for that matter, because they get to hold their party here in Denver at the Pepsi Center. I think that moving it to Invesco is not using the stadium for its purpose, which is to be a football field for the Denver Broncos. So I say go somewhere else like the Air Force Academy Stadium, or better yet just stay at the Pepsi Center.

Hey moonspinner, the Mile High Showdown (Rocky Mountain Showdown?) is on the WEEKEND, and this will be on a Wednesday (or Thursday?) evening. No overlap there.

Not to mention a small thing about money. The DNC is PAYING TO RENT MILE HIGH STADIUM, JUST LIKE THEY WOULD PAY TO RENT THE PEPSI CENTER! Noone's getting anything for free.

I think you're simply another Republican hack who's looking for things to complain about.

The Dems are paying their own way, so what's the problem with that? They're even paying for the same kind of additional security that John McCain will need at the GOP convention. I don't begrudge either side their celebration, and neither should you.

Tell us, moonspinner3, how much will the Republican convention cost, and how might it affect taxpayers? What sort of objections will you raise regarding their celebration and use of public facilities? Can we expect an even-handed response from you?

Don't forget the financing and building of Taxpayers Stadium was, in itself, a way to "stick it" to non-football fans. By your own arguement, how fair was that?

Add me to the "as long as Obama or Dems pay for it" list, GREAT! BTW, There are many events held at the stadium, not just football and it is not owned by a Canadian, it is owned by the public. The Denver Broncos are privately owned, if you don't like the owner or the game/team don't buy the tickets! I won't be going to the DNC event because I don't support Democrats, actually I wouldn't go if it were any political organization.
I don't like Lacrosse much so I don't go to their games at the stadium.
