Denver will host a Green Frontier Fest Aug. 24 to help kick off the Democratic National Convention.
The event, in the Sculpture Park of the Denver Performing Arts Complex, will also launch the New Energy Station, a weeklong look at Colorado's emerging energy technologies, where visitors can see, among other things, a giant wind-turbine blade. Both events will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"The city is committed through the leadership provided by our Greenprint Denver program to enhance and accelerate the green ethic of many of our citizens," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper in a statement.
Xcel Energy plans to exhibit the 2007 University of Colorado's Solar Decathlon House, a zero-energy home designed and built by students.
The focus will be on Denver and Colorado's efforts to embrace sustainable technologies.
"Denver, the Front Range and Colorado are naturally, culturally and intellectually well positioned to be the U.S. epicenter for a global new energy and sustainable future," Hickenlooper said.
