Alan Roach picked PA announcer for Broncos home games

Published July 14, 2008 at 12:53 p.m.

Text size

Alan Roach, who served as PA announcer for Rockies games from 1995 to 2006, will handle those duties at Broncos home games this season.

The announcement was made by the Broncos and KOA-AM (850), for which Roach had worked as a Broncos sideline reporter since 2000.

He replaces Alan Cass, who was the Broncos' PA announcer from 1988 to 2007.

Roach will continue to serve as sideline reporter for KOA's broadcasts of Broncos road games and as PA announcer for Avalanche home games and will serve as the voice of the NFL Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 2.

Roach began his sports announcing career in 1990 as public address announcer for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate. Roach also has handled PA duties at Super Bowl XL in Detroit in 2006, Super Bowl XLI in south Florida in 2007 and Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., in 2008. He also worked as the PA announcer for hockey at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

He has worked with Clear Channel radio stations in Denver since 1991, and his sports reports air on KOA weekdays from 5-9 a.m.

Yeah...That confused me as well. The article also never mentioned why the Broncos PA announcer of 19 years no longer does that job. Although, I can't say I'll miss Alan too much. I don't mind the "in-com-plete" business....but his slow, drawn-out, over-punctuation of players names literally drives me NUTS! I don't think I'd cry a tear losing the "incomplete" either.

It's just un-believable what these whiners take the time to complain about. I heard one time that we are a Nation of Whiners.......... you guys prove the point well.

Didn't Roach also have an afternoon show for quite a while on 103.5 the Fox? Great voice. What an awesome career to be able to do all that. Yer a Lucky Guy Papa Roach, keep up the good work.

Actually, I believe it's more a comment about a news story than "whining". If I use your logic, I could say you were a whiner about whining. Maybe even more so than our previous two "comment" posts.

Also, the correction of a headline that makes no sense, and the query about a journalistic omission, making the story an incomplete, is a valid observation about a professional publication.

By the way, you don't have to put a hyphen between "un" and "believable". "Unbelievable" is actually one word.

Hey! Wait a minute?! Is this Alan Cass??

Because he's the same guy that would spell Ed McCaffrey as "Ed-Mc-Ca-fa-er-ey".

If you're going to whine about a "comment" post being whiney, you really should do it in a less whiney way.

Thank you blohwjohblarry for clarifying. And, Sorry, you're wrong. Mine is an observation of the stupidity of the comments. Not whining. The 1st 2 are whiners (that'd be YOU). The title makes perfect sense for anybody with an I.Q. that hits double digits (that leaves you out BJ). It's simply a shortened simplified title. And honestly, the average 4 year old could figure it out. Clearly you struggle.

Oh wow...you make me laugh. You actually wrote, "that'd be YOU"...and then claim to be smart. I really have to giggle at that.

"Alan Roach picked PA announcer for Broncos home games" implies to the reader that Alan Roach picked the person who will be the PA announcer for Broncos home games.

The fact you think, "it's simply a shortened simplified title", (which is also a very bad sentence)...is really sad.

The grammatically correct way to write this headline would be, "Alan Roach picked as PA announcer for Broncos home games"....Or, "Alan Roach to be announcer for Broncos home game".

By the way, the former sentence is simpler than your "simply shortened simplified title" (oh yea...people with over a two digit IQ call it a "headline", not a "title")

Also, the RMN left out the fact that Alan Cass has retired. This is something I found out from the POST. Some would consider this journalistic negligence.

As a reader, we are left to wonder why Cass is not the announcer anymore. Is he dead? Has he been fired? Base on this article, we'll never know.

It's an overall poorly written article about a "simple" story. This would be called an, "observation", or a "comment".

Websters definition of "whining" is as follows:
To complain or protest in a childish fashion.

Hmmmm...let's flash back a bit. Which comments seem a bit more childlike? Or do I need to bring up "blohwjohblarry"?? Let's be honest, a failed attempt at humor. And as in insult, it falls way short.

Before you explain, here's some advice; if you have to explain it, it's not funny.

You really shouldn't post anymore. You embarrass yourself. Clearly you struggle with simply, shortened, simplified thoughts.

Good luck on your English test tomorrow! I only hope your English teacher is blind.

I dont understand you people who have nothing to do but complain about how someone announces a name. That is HIS choice; HIS trademark; HIS life. Are you people jealous you dont have an incredibly powerful and successful career based upon a God given talent? Honestly, if you want to complain about something, try looking at the economy and the major concerns we have going on in our nation today, and how many people are sad they cannot attend ANY game because they are trying to fuel their cars and feed their family. Get real.
