Yogis will be practicing their chaturanga and other poses alongside health-conscious delegates during the Democratic National Convention next month.
A traveling two-day yoga festival will kick off its 10-city tour in Denver on Aug. 24, the night before the convention opens.
"It's all about health, a healthy lifestyle and yoga," said Johannes Fisslinger, president of Yoga Health Foundation, the nonprofit organization in charge of the festival. "We want to invite people to attend and learn about healthy living and yoga, and the health benefits of yoga especially."
Yoga Month Denver Health Festival is part of "Dialog:City," an event supported by the DNC Host Committee organized by the city's Office of Cultural Affairs.
The yoga festival will hold free mini-classes, child enrichment programs and lectures on specific health issues such as depression and back pain.
Nationally known yoga instructors will be on hand in addition to medical practitioners and some "healthy" politicians.
"We've been talking to some of the high-level politicians and a lot them are totally into health care. Obviously it's a big subject in politics and in this election," Fisslinger said.
Yogis will practice in City Park near the floating futuristic Pavilion designed by South Korean architect Minsuk Cho.
The festival runs through September - national yoga month - and besides Denver will be held in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, New York, Austin, Texas; Chicago, Boston, Miami and Vancouver, British Columbia, among other cities.
