* Buy a United Red Carpet Club membership (Premier). It’s $500 but worth it. Why, you ask?

* General bennies even if you’re not flying United.

* Lounge gives you free Internet access, a comfortable place to hang and sometimes free booze and food.

* A separate customer-service line

* Check-in via the short line

* Short line through security

* Priority on stand-by flights

* Better seating

Other tips:

* Check in online. If you have no checked bags, you can get to the airport late.

* Check the DIA Web site for info on parking. The worst is when you’re late and all the lots are full.

* Check your flight status before leaving. Airlines usually don’t delay until it’s too late, but . . .

* Use the Amex Platinum Card. The fees are a little higher than regular, but it has some great bennies, including use of some airline lounges, free upgrades at great hotels and concierge for travel.
