FOUR FOURS FOR THE FOURTH

In honor of our nation's founding, Extra! takes a look back through the fourth dimension (which is time, of course) at other notable fours in history:

* Frozen Four One of the infrequent appearances of this event in Denver, the 2008 version featured Boston College hoisting the NCAA college hockey trophy with a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame at the Pepsi Center.

Brett Favre: The recently retired Green Bay Packers quarterback who holds almost every NFL passing record, and a 253-game consecutive starting streak. Subject of recent rumors that he's considering a comeback. Which he has denied. Sort of.

* "Fo'-Fo'-Fo' ": Famously brief (and almost correct) prediction by NBA Hall of Famer Moses Malone about the progress of his Philadelpia 76ers through the 1983 NBA playoffs. The 76ers lost only one game en route to the championship.

* George IV: Foppish son of English King George III, villain of the United States' creation story. George IV had to wait a long time to ascend to the throne and spent the time carousing and eating. He was obese and in poor health when he was coronated in 1820 at age 57. He died, unmourned by his subjects, in 1830.

TOO MANY STARS

Oops: Astute readers noticed that the huge flag that was displayed in the Brown Palace Thursday could not have hung there in the 1940s, as hotel staff surmised. There was the little issue of the flag having 50 stars, representing the entry of Hawaii and Alaska to the Union in 1959. The flag was acquired in 1960 and hung until 1996.
