Dining briefs: History repeating

After pouring potent drinks to generations of barflies for 75 years, Billy's Inn, in operation since 1933, closed its doors in February, falling victim to Colorado's statewide smoking ban, which didn't go over well with then-owner James Von Feldt - or his puffing patrons.
That sad day marked the passing of a Denver institution - an everyone-knows-your-name watering hole that had woven itself into the fabric of the Berkeley Park neighborhood. But now, you can all breathe easy because Billy's has a new lease on life - or at least it will come mid-July, when partners Christopher Mohaupt, Jeff Hermanson, Joe Vostrejs and Rod Wagner unveil the gussied-up space.
Billy's kitchen, which hasn't served a spot of sustenance since the early 1960s, will be up and running again, focusing on modern bar food, the brainchild of consulting chef Troy Guard, formerly of Zengo, Nine 75, Ocean and Oscar's Steaks and Seafood.
The extensive menu will include fish tacos, sandwiches, burgers, buttermilk fried chicken nuggets, chicken wings, chipotle chicken taquitos, veggie fries, salads and quesadillas, plus specialty margaritas, 12 beers on tap and a 75-plus-bottle tequila selection.
